VF-31 and VF-24 Hellcats
« on: January 01, 2007, 12:07:15 PM »
Joedog asked if someone could do a VF-31 Hellcat. I found this photo of an VF-31 F6F taking off from the USS Cabot in Squadron's F6F Hellcat in Action and did a skin of it. The fuselage sides are mirrored on the F6F skin so I changed the number from 33 to 88.

Before doing this skin I transferred all my old skin files to my new PC and set them up with the new directory names. In doing so I found an old F6F I'd never submitted from VF-24 on the USS Santee.

I need to update the weathering on these skins before submitting them.

Thank you guys. Rattfink, that photo of Nooy's Hellcat is interesting as the kills and squadron art would line up nicely with the patch on the fuselage of the default McCampbell skin. Its a pity I can't see the squadron number completely, if it was an "8" it would mirror perfectly but its probably something like 13 or 38.

Roger, there's a Hellcat with white ailerons already in the game, from VBF-12. Is that the one you mean?

Nooy ranked #4 as a Navy Ace

19 kills

I have looked up and down Greebo and I can't find a pic w/ Nooy's plane with the number he flew but I do have other VF-31 showing the numbers but it was when the VF-31 was the "Flying Meat Axes"

Fact: VF-31 "Tomcatters" historcally the oldest naval squad.

Resently they changed to the VFA-31 when they retired the tomcat for the super hornet.

Do you know where I can get a CV Kill Marking?  I would like to have one so we can award them to squaddies who have sunk a carrier!

Again ty for all your help :)

I've added the meat axe logo to the VF-31 skin. I'm not sure what the rectangular symbol above the meat axe is on the photo, some personal mark of Nooy's perhaps?

I also quickly did a ship kill logo. I'm guessing this is to put on your squad roster page? If you've got something else in mind, I can change it to suit.

The skin has been submitted to HTC Rattfink. I didn't post any more screenshots as there weren't any major changes, just some weathering stuff.

Thanks for posting the photos, its a shame I wasn't able to take full advantage of them because of the skin's mirrored fuselage sides. The pilot name and number 12 would have been reversed on one side of the plane. I'll be able to do a much better job when HTC get round to remodelling the F6F.
