Radeon 9200 help
« on: January 03, 2007, 03:11:23 PM »
I am trying to install a ATI Radeon 9200 on my HP pc.  I have uninstalled all the drivers from my geforce 5500FX, and I have disabled the onboard intel graphics.

It seems after I have the card seated, and I try to plug my monitor into it, nothing appears on the screen.  When put the old geforce back in, the screen works again, but the card isn't even installed???

pls help:(

ATI is good with AMD proccesors.....Intel is good with Nvidia

Plus the 9200 like my 9250 is not the greatest card to try and fly with....it works...but need to get dual 1600 series cards installed

Actually GunRun, you have it backwards.  ATI optimizes for Intel (of course that will change once AMD gets fully in control of things at ATI, but ATI had a technology exchange agreement in place with Intel, until AMD bought ATI) and NVidia has always optimized for AMD (Intel and NVidia had a serious falling out a few years back).

If you boot up your computer with the 9200, does the bios of the card and of the motherboard show on the  screen? If you are not sure since the display takes to long to wake up, does the display wake up out of sleep mode and is blank then, or maybe you manage to get into bios by hitting the korresponding key?

When this is the case you can probably boot winxp into command line or eaven save mode, then you have a driver mess up somehow.

If this doesnt work you might have some bios setting that prevents the 9200 card from working.

I guess the cards are both AGP cards?
I think there are diffrent AGP standarts, 4x,8x and a low voltage 8x. While A motherboard supporting the latest one works with earlier cards together it doesnt always work the other way.

Did you use the same cable?
It might be the monitor doesnt automatically switch connection and if you have changed to the diffrent plug on the monitor its black till you switch input.

hope this helps
