I quit!!!!
« on: January 03, 2007, 03:53:55 PM »
Smoking...Been three days now and i'm on the verge of going nuts...I'm going cold turkey (no gum, no patch etc...).  Ever since I quit I have had a splitting headache that seems to get worse every day.  I feel very comfortable with my self control, and know I don't need to go back to cigs, but can anyone give me any tips for coping with the process...Especially the physical part of it.:furious :cry  :noid :O

Cav,

I'm quitting also. I'm also going cold turkey. Today is Day 3. I spent the first 2 days with monster headaches and blurry vision. I have just tried to stay busy, and telling myself it won't be so bad tomorrow. I am already feeling less physical agony, and will see this thru.

I'm 33 going on 34. I have children now. My father is dying because of smoking (2 massive heartaches attributed to smoking). I don't want to die from Cancer.

I'm here brother.

I quit when I turned 30 . Good on you to do it .

I used "Life Savers" in my pocket . I could reach in to get a cig and get me a life saver :) worked . I am 53 and still not smoking .

I did quit the Life Savers when my teeth started to hurt :P hehe .

In two years you will wonder why you ever smoked :aok

Just passed my four year anniversary.  Cigarettes are an addiction.  Once an addict, always an addict.  The cravings will gradually fade, but never completely go away.  I still find myself in situations that trigger an almost overwhelming urge.

To stop smoking is a decision that you have to want to make; to go into it half-hearted means to fail.  Quitting was one of the hardest things I've done and one of the things I'm most proud of.  If you have kids think about them; do you want to be around to see your grandkids?  Do you want to make them watch you die a slow horrible death?  Good luck.

To people who refuse to quit I say kill yourself with a gun:  It's cheaper and much quicker.

I love smoking.

I smoke about a pack a day of Camel menthols.

That first deep long drag after dinner or when you wake up from a deep good nights sleep is the best!

Keep it up, Cav. I had quit for short periods (couple of weeks/ months here and there) but when I truly kicked the habit I went cold turkey and had the resolve to stick it out. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Stay strong and Hang in there!

It'll be 7 years for me in April. I took the drugs (Zyban) and it was a relative breeze. I still have urges, and I actually smoked a cigar while drinking on my bud's boat last year. I was deathly afraid I'd pick up the habit again, but I didn't. I still go hang out in the smoking area here at work just because.

thanks guys....metally its not the tough...Physically is a whole different story.  Like I said, the headaches are unbelieveable.  This is my third time quitting, but first time really going into it 100%.  As most of you know I am a civil pilot right now, and attempting to make a career in military aviation.  My family has a history of heart condition, and I know if I continue to smoke, I will end up having a heart attack before retirement, grounding me, civil or military.  i'm in it 100% this time.

thanks  cav

I've only quit drinking soda so I don't know the half of what you're going through, but I support your decision to quit 100%.

Cav58d,

Post a picture of yourself as collateral.  That way if you start back up we will photochop the heck out of your pic and poke fun at you.

You could also vow that if you start back up you will fly nothing but the P-40B for a month.

Today's the 7th day without a smoke for me.  Not that I've made any resolution to quit but I've been really sick for the last week and cigarettes taste funny (as do all things now) and the thought of smoking makes me queasy.  So I'm going to ride this and see how long it lasts.  If I make it to the 2nd week mark I may just go all the way and quit for good.
