Is AH Windows 2000 compatible? We are getting a new computer Friday which, at my wife's insistence, is coming with Win2000 Pro installed as the OS. As my wife is a programmer and it's her incometax refund cheque, I didn't have a lot to say is this regard.

There are some folks running AH successfully in Win2k.  Win2k tends to have problems with the controllers, but AH itself runs fine on 2k, and has for quite a while.

Hopefully you have purchased a machine with a video card that will have up to date Win2k drivers, and if so you should have no problem getting Win2k going.  You will want to set up Direct X 8, but not until after you have installed the latest drivers for your video card and sound card.

It's a 1.2 GHz Athlon, 256 Meg SDRAM, 40 Meg HD, a 32 Meg GEForce 2 MX card, and a Creative Live! soundcard, so it should theoretically handle the game. I'll be sure to check for updated drivers. I'm going for a new Logitech USB digital stick for a b'day present to myself so it should be fairly compatible.

I just wanted to be sure that it was Win2K compatible.

AH runs fine in Windows 2000 - better than W98 in fact for me because I've got a SMP machine.

Unfortunately, my connection leaves a lot to be desired. But I'm moving soon...

Holder,

I have had good success with Win2K and AH, but one problem area with Win2K and AH has been USB control devices. Hopefully, that issue has been fixed. Perhaps someone else could add their two cents worth here before Holder buys the USB joystick.

Well, I know some of that has been fixed.  If you are haveing any problems with USB, go here:  http://www.usbman.com/

They have great troubleshooters there for specific OS's, mainboard chipsets, and even specific mainboards.  Fantastic resource, and allowed me to get my USB stuff working on my 2k Server box at home.

AH runs excellent in Windows2000 (much to my surprise..)

The only problems I encountered was

a) sidewinder control panel not working, had to setup stick directly from AH.

b) Volume control problems, probably something to do with creative drivers (I have Live! too.)

c) Graphics bug when alt-tabbing to desktop and back, requires restart of AH.exe to get rid of..

The probs above are with W2k professional SP1 all latest fixes from m$, 11.01 detonators, dx8.0a, liveware3.0, m$ precision pro..
