Merle B. Gustafson flying his F-4U video request
« on: January 05, 2007, 09:56:42 PM »
Anyone have a link to any video of him flying his corsair?  I've heard about his flying in a hog but I have yet to see any video of it.

Thanks in advance.

When he began flying his newly restored F4U Corsair in 1973, his airshow performances soon were in great demand. His achievement flying the U-Bird became so legendary that Pennzoil filmed a documentary about his life in 1975 entitled "The Country Boy." The oil company split the footage up into several segments which they used in their commercials during the 1976 television season. Of course, many people remember that NBC televised the pilot episode of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" or the Black Sheep Squadron in September of the same year. Gustafson flew many aerobatic maneuvers in the large fighter which were usually only performed by much smaller aircraft such as the Pitts Special. Many professional pilots said "you have to see it with your own eyes to believe it."
