HT,

The other day i was in a Tiger  on a airfield, helping cap it.
I had a IL2 take off several times. I was in front of the BH
where Buffs spawn. It took 3 yes 3 Tiger AP hits from within 100
yards to kill the IL2. It wouldnt even take damage, as far as
smoke, andd or parts come off.

Id think even though IL2 was hvy armored it shouldnt take
3 AP Tiger hits.

could you take a look at the armor code for IL2.

It took 2 37mm hits to the body to kill a IL2.  Speeds were the same, about 200mph indicated.  I was behind him.  I might have been hitting his tail.  I only fired 37mm rounds.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

Whels, try HE next time. With AP you need to hit pilot to blow plane i think.

Oleg,

IL2 was armored against ground fire (rifle, handgun, and such, and 20 and 30mm a2a fire), a Tiger 88mm  AP round should blow the IL2 up 1 hit, its not a 60 ton main battle tank.0

Depending on where you hit. If you think 88 AP works like nuke you wrong.

whels:  while I agree with your fustration the the modeling in this case
is probaly correct.  AP was made to priece armor.  Unless a engine hit or pilot hit round would just go through the plane leaving a 88mm hole.  HE would inflict much more damage than AP.  This was one of the reasons
why PT boats were made out of plywood verses metal.  AP rounds would just pass though unless hitting engine.  Same for mossy.  BLT280

Gee, I dunno, but a hundred-pound (?) very heavy projectile moving at the speed of sound impacting with ANY part of a plane is going to rip the frakking thing in half. If a .32 can put a hole in a plank, and a .45 can blow the plank off the wall of the barn, think about the 88mm (8.8cm, about 3 and 1/3 inches radius) isn't just going to make a hole and pass through. If it hits ANYwhere it's going to rip whatever it hit straight off. If it hits anywhere on the fuselage it's going to either crack it in half or blow the engine out the other side of the airframe.

Doesn't matter if it's AP. Doesn't matter if it actually explodes or not. That plane should have been totalled.

88mm AP did not wieght near 100 lbs, around 50 maybe. that type of round could very well go thur a plane if it only hit a area without  large parts. Same as a small arms Ball ammo will do very little harm if it does not hit bone or major body part.

Know a good deal about smallarms hitting power, wood and thin metal are not the same. You get more hitting power on wood than thin metal. look at the holes, wood will have a bigger hole in the rear while thin metal has the same size front and rear. Remenber planes had very thin metal skin.

Krusty, replace wooden plank with paper sheet and see what will happens.

Aluminium/plywood skin is nothing for 88 AP.

Whels says he was in FRONT of the BH.

If he had any kind of a front 1/4 shot on an Il2 running out of the hanger he would invariably have hit with the first shot:

- the engine
- wing spar
- pilot

should be enough to at least make the plane unflyable. (again that is with the first shot)

From the readme of the current patch:

"Fixed a bug in the Il2 that could cause certain engine components to absorb massive damage."
