The Dems shut down Congress
« on: January 08, 2007, 11:29:19 AM »
Nancy Pelosi and her pals have chosen to shut down Congress today.

Was it because of the strange odors in NYC?
Nope.

Was due to the dead bird scare in Austin?
Nope.

Congress is taking a day off to watch the Ohio State v U.o F. game.

Guess the 100 hrs thing will start in.....24 hrs :rofl

The game starts at 2000 EST.  Why would they need to shutdown Congress?

A Democratic aide said House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio had asked that there be no votes until Tuesday.

"There is a very important event happening Monday night, particularly for those who live in Ohio and Florida," said House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer.

"In the spirit of comity," Hoyer told colleagues, the House would not return to work until Tuesday. While many appreciated the move, some criticized Democrats.

"We all know the big national championship game is on Monday night," said Rep. Tom Price, a Georgia Republican. "But taking an entire day to watch the game isn't what we should spend part of our five-day work week doing."

=======================

My guess is Boehner has tickets and is already in Phoenix.  Anyone know if his name is pronounced "bone-er"?  Talk about instant nickname.

Well to be expected.  In a previous post I stated that during 2006 Congress worked 65 days in Washington.  What difference will one more day make.

The 109th congress would fly into DC on Monday night and work Tuesday thru Thursday afternoon then leave that afternoon or Friday.

So, taking off the first Monday of the 110th but still working thru Friday is only slacking if you forget about the 109th's work ethic or lack thereof.

The whines from the right side of the isle in congress regarding the work week and ethics reform are very entertaining these days, makes watching CSPAN worthwhile. IMO.
