I'm surprised nobody else has done this one. We had 2-3 of them before the 109s were revamped. Anyways, if I've made any errors or snafus please let me know and I'll fix it asap. I think I've got this one done properly, though.

This is his first 109f-4, Werk Nr. 8693.

I'll wait for any feedback before submitting it, just to be safe. I'm surprised nobody else wanted to do this one, so I went ahead and did it.

I personally think it looks awesome, I just don't know how to look past the skin towards the details.

on the cowl MG's rusty would there rarely be any evidence of powder discharge, or would they clean it off regularly to prevent corrosion?

I've put stains inside the gun troughs, but you don't see much staining on actual 109 photos. I think they cleaned it off because it would blow back into the wind screen. It wouldn't be a thick mucky layer, but they'd want their pilots to see as well as possible.

The color looks so rich... i would almost prefer a more faded/washed out look from the desert sun.

I believe its a marker for an access panel where personnel used to be able to access and service the radio on the plane...

It's a red cross, because there's a first aid kit in there.

It's got some basic fading, splotching, and wear on the leading edges and such. I can boost those layers and post some more screenshots if you like?

god forbid the guy cut his finger in the plane and has to hop out get some sort of stick and grab it from back there

that is why when i fly my 109 i keep a couple of my flinstones band-aids in my pocket

That's a really nice looking skin Krusty. Not sure about amount of weathering, how long would this aircraft have been in the desert as its represented here?

I now agree it needs more wear and tear. But I don't want to over-do it. They did maintain these planes fairly well (the elite fighter pilots got the best treatment, it almost seems like)

Krusty, the only thing I can see is maybe the exhaust stain on the fuselage could be a little more faded and splotchy. That's a great looking skin:aok

There are two pictures of what purports to be his first F4 in "Bf109 Aces of North Africa and the Mediterranean" by Jerry Scutts (Osprey Aircraft of the Aces #2) pages 78 and 79. Its werk # is reported as 12 593. Also lots of good shots of JG27 109s for reference I recommend it to you Krusty.
