Tired of the 'Lone Ranger' tactics?
« on: January 12, 2007, 07:43:34 PM »
Well, since FiLTH went real quiet about his Bomber Wing, I am going to try this myself. For those of you who are interested in realistic tactics in the Main Arenas, this is for you. My plan is to, once a week, schedule a long-duration mission that is as realistic as possible. I intend to include bombers with escorts, and actual formation flying. There will be, at least once a week, a mission scheduled the previous week. Depending on the sucess of this first run, I will decide whether or not to create my own forums for this, or simply ask HTC if they would be so kind as to give me one for this. The missions will be primarily sundays and wedensdays, and full details, such as planes and objectives will be given. One of the major problems I found on that one Bomber Wing mission was massive lag on takeoff that even disconnected several people. To avoid this, AND add to the realism, we will launch from multiple fields. Both fighters and bomber pilots will be necessary and even ground vehicles for certain assaults. All missions, excluding GV runs, will contain planes from only ONE country. You will never see Bf-110s and N1Ks flying next to each other. For the first mission I want to start with a good-old-fashioned Stuka raid!!!

The first mission, Sunday 21 January, will consist of the following mission plan:

Ju-87 Stukas ordenance: 1x 1,000kg 2x 250kg (75%)
Bf-109s model to be decided (25%)

Stukas will take off from 2 seperate feilds, between 75 and 100 miles away from the target base. Bf-109s will take off from the front lines and meet up with the Stukas en-route. Stukas will climb to 15,000 feet and assume a 'vic' formation, Bf-109s will climb to 16,000 feet and assume a 'finger-four' formation. Upon rondevouz the Bf-109s will climb to 17,500 feet and watch the bombers on through to the target. Stukas will bomb in groups of three and return to base, alon with the Bf-109s.

If you are interested, or have any questions, post here or e-mail me at Serenity@kg200.org

I like the idea.  If I can make it, I'll fly either with you...or to intercept :t

I would, however, recommend changing the composition to include more escorts.  You can bet that with that # of piggy stukas, you will be hunted like no other mission before.  Mebbe 50/50 would be better.

That will be decided later ;) though I would expect the Bishops to take the brunt of most of these missions, but I will gladly take the fights to the Knights as well... rooks too...

And thank you kamiliyun. If we get enough pilots, I would welcome an intercept wholeheartedly, so long as you would be so kind as to intercept in a Hurrican or Spitfire ;) But, im not terribly sure how many people I will get or need. The other night, I managed to get 7 Stukas into a V-base, passing OVER the biggest dogfight in the arena a mere 3,000 feet above, got in, dropped our bombs, and other than the few we lost to ack, all returned to base alive. People dont expect Stukas, for some strange reason... when out of icon range, people just assume they are fighters...

As for time, it will most likely be 6:00pm EST. Either of you interested?

I'm up for this.

been playing IL2 and I just can't adjust back to the airquake MA, so anything that prolongs my sorties has to be good.

Tired of this biggles.

The 71st are pre-dominately  an American squad.

How many pilots are British compared to US.

Bat, yourself, steff, sindon 4 of what 30 odd???

Hours/kills logged by your British minority over the past year?

I have the upmost respect for you guys the amount of time spent with training newer players and helping the community I give a big ~S~

but bigger in terms of playing from our fine country I beg to differ.  ;)

don't get me wrong, all you guys are great, but 71 is bigger, both overall and in terms of UK/european timezone flyers. purely talking numbers here

20+???

wow.

With that many people I would expect to see some major force for knights in our time zone.  Mostly see them outnumbered.

Obviously i'm mistaken by not including in-active players and dont see anything on the squad stats that would agree with the numbers you speak of.

well yeah, we have over 50 guys, but lots aren't big time players. hell, even i haven't been able to play 10 hours a month in months...

even so, most of the americans in the squad fly more UK friendly times because of work and things.

edit: just checked rosters, 54 members, 18 euro fliers, most of which are brits, although quite a few members are inactive (money problems, blueJ joining the navy, Sigmas PC broke i think, etc.)

most UK based members are active though

Know what you mean with the lack of time.

In an ideal world we wouldnt have to go to work and play AH all day.  Only distraction being satisfying the missus.  I must admit i'm jealous of LYNX ;)

Apologies to reynolds (if it is him for hijacking his thread with machosim)
