Cool, I get to watch Flyboys again even before I order it.  I'd like to recommend that everyone here buy it when it's available; the man who made it spent a large fortune building replica airplanes, then was unable to use them in the majority of the film because of a crash.  And the movie flopped, making only a small fraction of the cost of production.  The film itself is the best aerial combat movie I've seen since Battle of Britain.  It's Hollywood, but it's remarkably closer to the reality than most.

No, and there's weren't Dr.Is at all at that time period, either.  And we could all point out a dozen other things that they got wrong.  As I said, It's Hollywood, but it's remarkably closer to the reality than most."  They got more things right than they got wrong, which is unusual (Top Gun and Pearl Harbor, for examples, got more things wrong than right).  If you couldn't enjoy Flyboys as a good flying movie, then maybe you need to loosen up.  I really thought you couldn't get more uptight about history than me, but it looks like you can.  I suppose you didn't enjoy Battle of Britain, either, because they used Hispano Buchons instead of Me-109s and Spitfire Mark V's instead of Mark I's?  Sad.

Sorry Hazzer, I couldn't quite keep up with your stream of consciousness writing.  Were you saying that you wish they had gotten a better script for Flyboys?  I still haven't seen it, but after some of the comments here, I'm not in a huge rush.  The story behind how they built those replica Newports for filming is pretty neat, though.

i thought flyboys was pretty good...i doubt any of you could ever know how the real WW1 dogfights were, so i dont think you have any room to say that its as bad as pearl harbor...it was pretty good

the reason that hollywood got some of these things wrong is because they want it to sell to a GENERAL audience, war buffs like us will have to suffer a little from this, because they want to make the most profit if it was 100% historically accurate then it wouldnt sell as much because no one would like it...

No, I don't need 100% historical accuracy to enjoy a moive.  Then again, I don't want it to insult my intelligence, either.  I am sure Flyboys is a fine movie, and it has it's fans.  But just from the trailers I can tell that I probably wouldn't like it.  Until then I'll just keep watching my DVD copy of The Blue Max[/b] for my WWI fix.

Just the fact that this movie had a partnership with Warbirds should be an indicator...

I'm sure it's a fine film.

Well thats kinda different that was nearly 40 years ago...and at least they were spitfires! (which actually were in the battle of britain) I mean they tried the next best real thing with Buchons, and C-2111s...its not like they painted up a couple of P-51's as Bf109's, or B-25s with swastikas...

I mean Flyboys obviously had plenty of CGI talent...why not use it properly?  Its the details that make the difference - look at the Blue Max - no CGI but at least they attempted to be realistic. In Saving Private Ryan's last battle they didn't just have a black M-48 surrounded by 1939 field grey uniforms all toting MP40's for a reason - because they wanted to get it right!

The dogfights were good set pieces (ok...apart from the Spad which "stalled" backwards into the Dr1's top wing and then shot up the remains!?!)......but geez most of this stuff was straight out of the Michael Bay handbook. You won't find Peter Jackson treating his audience like handsomehunkes with his all black Lancasters out rolling a horde of bright red FW190's in his remake of the Dambusters...

I'm just dissapointed the very evil german (who was so evil they ran out of red paint for) didn't have a moustache to twirl before doing his very evil deeds...
