right aileron

right aileron seems to stick up slightly causing a pull to the  left ? ( is that  right)  and the  left  aileron stays  flat  even when i press  q  for a quick lift??   any  clues to wots  causing  this  guys??  cheers  in advance

Is this when you have the trim to auto-level? If it is, then it sounds like a small amount of trim to counter the prop torque the engine creates - eg its adding a bit of counter-roll to keep the engine torque from slowly rolling the plane in the other direction.

right aileron up would give right roll input not left. If the left aileron was likewise down rather than flat it would contribute even more to right roll.

It is the downgoing aileron that causes most of the drag associated with adverse yaw (maybe your "pull" to the left) but in your case I doubt the left aileron is causing any yaw.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it!

Ops just noticed you said "Q" Q and W are usually mapped to flaps so if your aileron is moving at all with "Q" I would wonder if you have remapped the trim keys?
As another point you can trim out any yaw with the rudder trim.
At the end of the day when trimed the ball on the turn and slip indicator should be in the middle when flying straight.

well its also causing me to get a lotta rattling when climbing steeply  even just a slight pull on the  stick makes it  judder

When the aircraft starts to shake in a climb you are probably about to stall. You are in fact flying far too slowly so don't!

Depending on the aircraft, a climb speed of 150 to 180 would be a ballpark to consider when just climbing for altitude. Better still use the autospeed trim press ALT + X to toggle it on and off. Moving the controls will also turn it off. There is a light on the instrument panel that lights when you have auto trim on. (A different colour depending on Auto speed, Auto level or Auto angle)

I suggest you print off the Quick Reference page so you can remind yourself quickly of some of the most commonly used key functions.

I also wonder if you are confusing Flaps and Ailerons ?

Just for your information a pilot looking for some special climb performance will sometimes consider maximum climb rate (Fastest altitude climb rate) or maximum climb angle (Steepest climb angle for clearing obstructions near the airfield). The thing is, the steepest angle is a lot slower in climb rate because the wing is not working as efficently. So a Steep climb is often a slow climb. The default for autospeed trim will give you a good climb rate.

discopants, i think you got a few things mixed up here slightly.


What pulls you to the left on takeoff are engine torque and prowash effects and has nothing to do with your ailerons. If you are using auto combat trim, which i think that by default you do (and which is a good thing untill you are familiar with the mechanics of flying) the automated trimming of your plane will cause the right aileron to be slightly up to *counter* the torque.... it does not cause it.

On takeoff, you need to lock your tailwheel (by pulling back slightly on your Joystick) and use the RUDDER to keep your plane straight on the runway. Finding the right amount of rudder and not overdo it takes some practice.... dont give up if it doesnt work the first time. You might even want to practice to "drive" your plane around the base for a bit (at very low throttle) to get a feel for the rudder input needed to taxi and also the effect the tailwheel lock has on the behaviour of the plane while taxiing.


In most fighters, especially when you do not carry a heavy load (like bombs or rockets) you do NOT need the flaps (Q) for takeoff. It will just make the nose "wobbly" unneccessarily.

god this is driving me mad  now !!  when im sat on the runway i look right and see aileron slightly up ,look left and its slightlty  down!!  on  take off  im getting a big pull to the left even without touchin the stick have to keep correcting all the time, and when i go to climb even the slightest minute touch on the stick is givin my plane the judders  ( on the the stalling type shakes)  obviously im a newbie and aint got the savvy to figure this out myself hence the shout  no  scream  for  help   lol  cheers

Discopants, if you read my answer above... I explained both... the not centered aileron and the pull to the left.

What type of stick are you using.
If logitek, Its probably spiking and throwing off auto takeoff .

Calibrate and add some dead band.

Also get to a reasonable speed before trying to climb and maneuver.

This is not a jet sim/game where thrust is almost a non issue.

This is normal. Its just the trim setting - ignore it.

This too is normal, you will have to correct with rudder inputs and/or lock the rear tail-wheel as schatzi has pointed out. You have a massively powerful engine in the nose rotating with force. As per Newton's 3rd Law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, so the engine is literally trying to rotate your whole aircraft - this manifests itself as the big pull to the left you are seeing. THe more throttle, the more power the engine produces, the more stronger the pull to the left will be. Try a more progressive transition to 100% throttle rather than just jamming it to 100% instantly.

Sounds like you just too slow. Try a gentler climb rate by using auto-climb or just a shallower angle. They are piston-powered prop planes not modern turbo-fan powered beasts. Once you're above 200 or so you will find you aircraft more maneuverable. Faster still you will be able to use the vert (loop etc) without stalls or shudders. The key is monitoring and maintaining your airpseed.

Discopants do this please.

Hit escape to bring up the clip board. Select options then preferences and then flight.

This will bring up a window. Make sure there is an X in the auto take-off box. If there isn't, click on it to select it. Click apply and then go back and try launching a plane.

You will see green text in fromt of you when you hit the runway that says "auto takeoff enabled".

Now, DO NOT move any control on your stick except the throttle and views. If you move the ailerons or elevators it will disable auto take off.

Push your throttle fwd to full throttle and let the aircraft take off unassisted. Once you have about 160 mph or so you can take over control simply by moving the stick.

Get level and let the plane build speed. 160 mph is pretty close to best climb speed, but if you try to horse the nose higher you may stall when that slow.

Speed is the name of the game. Get fast first. Then you will be able to experiment with flying and maneuvering in flight.

There is a pretty steep learning curve here.

Also, Schatzi is bang on with her explanation of what is happening to you and why your ailerons are set as they are when you are taking off. Torque is a pretty big issue, and you will find some planes are much torque-ier than others here as well.
