Not all agree with that.

actually, whiskey is from Ireland, scotch from, well, guess we can figure that one out,  burbon from Kentucky....  unfortunate for jack daniels as made in tennesse.  to further elaborate.....american whiskey, generally known as burbon....though only kentucky officially allowed that title, is made with corn....hence a sweeter tasting whisky.  also it is only distilled 1 time.  scotch is distilled 2 times and features a "smokey" flavor, which comes from the fuel used to cook the mash.  finally irsish whiskey, my personal favorite followed closely by scotch, is distilled 3 times and cooked with a smokless (not sure if that is a real word) fuel....hence no smokey flavor.  both whiskey and scotch are made with barley:)  i have more, but i get carried away at times:)

oh also, couldn't let this slip, all whisky made in the U.S has to be aged in a brand new keg.  which is another reason, imho, scotch and irish whiskey taste better.

He's probably saying the Scots learned distilling from the Irish, which is true. However, the Irish most likely learned it from English missionary monks.

The latest information indicates the English monks developed the practice so that in the distant future HT could be persuaded to add the B-25 Quitch to AH before it's too late for my dad to fly it here as he did in New Guinea.
