Grass roots revolt in the US military against a SURGE
« on: January 17, 2007, 01:34:06 PM »
The only thing I wonder about is hiding the identity of the servicemen and servicewomen who are signing this petition.  They signed up voluntarily, they should be able to stand on their own morals afterwards

Is there a reason we have a right to face our accusers?  We should be allowed to know who petitions us as well.

They aren't petitioning us. They are petitioning their elected representative.

Signing up voluntarily doesn't mean you cannot contact your congressman if you are unhappy with current political policies.

Madden said he believes that the war "benefits neither the United States nor Iraq, and especially not the American military. ... If you are funding a war that puts them [U.S. troops] in harm's way, you are not supporting them."

Uhm... aren't they SUPPOSED to go in harm's way?

Well Sandman, when you are tossing out bait, it is best to get it all out as fast as possible then go back and see what you caught.  :)

Translation:  I have a finite amount of dead time available.  Tossing in more hooks should yeild higher catch levels than a single hook.

When the campaign began three months ago, White House spokesman Tony Snow dismissed the first signatories as "65 people who are going to be able to get more press than the hundreds of thousands who have come back and said they're proud of their service."

web based junk:

As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq . Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home.

I'm sure their login info is verified and the bogus ones deleted :lol

You read the article, pulled out one line and then jumped off the deep end... and now you want to discuss your interpretation of that one line.

Nice try.

signatories will not be identified publicly to protect them.

Protect them from who?  from what?  What are they afraid of?  Are they breaking any part of the UCMJ?

"We will not be silent while thousands die," said Sgt. Liam Madden, 22, an active-duty Marine and Iraq war veteran who is helping lead the effort to organize resistance to the war from inside the military.

A Pew Research Center poll released Tuesday showed that 61 percent of Americans oppose sending more troops to Iraq. Some 60 percent of Republicans support Bush's plan, and 33 percent oppose it. Among Democrats, 12 percent support it and 82 percent oppose it. Among independents, 31 percent support the plan and 62 percent oppose.

More food for thought

We're down to 61% now.  Was over 71% last week....hmm
