To be honest, I thought apeking's post was funny as hell (and very "Pythonesque"), but like I said, it was a hijack :)

I didn't know that he knew. Now I know that he knows. Further, he knows that I know that he knows, and knows that I didn't know that he knew, but now know that he knew, even though I didn't know.

(and so on, and so forth) :aok

I think Storch recognizes it, he said he made some business trips down that way and there used to be some Brasilians that flew Aces High. Have'nt seen any around in a while though.

não estou brincando filho eu não falo portuguese.  :D  I was at the bus station in são paulo waiting for my driver to pick me up.  the usual stream of pan handlers had eaten up all my loose change.  when another came to ask me for help with bus fare, bored to tears and somewhat pissed to be waiting in the january heat for so long I look at the man and say me disculpa senhor mais eu não falo portuguese.  now my spoken portuguese is without accent and a mixture of intonations from the different regions but tends to sound somewhat cariocaish.  meanwhile this guy is studying me intently, I making steady eye contact with him, my driver shows up seeing whats going on he asks whats up.  I tell him in english that I'm playing a joke on this guy.  he explains to man that I'm an american here on business and that I don't speak portuguese to which the guy responds mais esta falando!!!!  I smile at the guy and pull out the smallest bill I had a 1000 cruziero note and give him that.

ya bruv more fodder for you, until you run into me. :aok

Was that the current cruziero, or was that the cruziero before the cruziero novo before the cruzado before the cruzado novo (and did I miss another cruziero in there somewhere)?

Or has it been long enough that all have come and gone yet again?

I left Brasil in 1965 and never went back till 2005 so I missed everything from the cruzeiro all the way to the Real. I still catch myself saying cruzeiro instead of Real.

That was an interesting story there Storch. I can only imagine what was going on in that man's mind you gave the mil cruzeiros to. :)

mil was around a dollar that month :)  brasil was suffering hyperinflation at that time the currency was worthless.  filling stations and stores would alter their prices by the hour.  it was an insane period in time for them.

January, 1990, 82% inflation.  That is not an annualized rate, folks, prices went up an average of 82% in that single month.  That was the worst I personally experienced -- usually hovered in the 30%'s per month.

Oh, and BTW, in case some of you readers didn't know, each change of currency is usually accompanied by dropping 3 zeros off the denomination, i.e. 1 cruzado novo = 1,000 of the previous cruzados.

And here the Fed gets all upset if annualized inflation gets above 2.5%. :rofl

Back (slightly) on topic, a commentator at the time was comparing the hyperinflation Brazil was experiencing to what Germany was experiencing in the last days of the Weimar Republic, right before the Nastzis took over.  Couldn't follow his logic quite closely enough to tell if he was advocating something . . .

Ahem . . . We need more JU88 variants right away. :aok

theNewB, we're talking Ju88Cs and Gs. These are heavily armed, cannon-toting planes. They carried no bombs, and were used to hunt bombers.

More like a zerstorer than a bomber.
