HEEEEEEEEEEELP !!!! CH F16 Fighterstick !!!
« on: March 14, 2000, 11:53:00 AM »
OK, I got this new Joystick today by the post , onlly with a DOS installation Disquette....

The drivers I found in Win98 are there, but shows a 4 button/throttle Joystick only !

I installed the CHSETUP disk, but when I launch it under DOS, it says that the Joystick is not in the port (It is since Windoze finds it, and I put it with the keyboard cable as well)

HELP !!! HELP !!!!

HOW DO I SET THIS UP ????????????

NB : Tried Speed keys, but it does not find a Joystick
NBB: Am not using any Throttle or Pedals yet !

Still not working but I found this out : Might be related to the fact that it's connected to the Gameport of the SB Live...

Windoze 98SE finds the Joystick properly, but I launched JCENTER in DOS, it does not find the Jystick at all

I do get Numbers appearing when I press the buttons/hats so I know it's set up correctly.

I will try to remove the Internal modem I have to see if it's not conflicting with it, but I doubt it...

Sigh.......looks like I will have to buy a Gameport

Negative! You do not need a gamecard (although it might be smoother than a soundcards gameport)

What are the resource numbers being used in your Windows device manager window for your game stick?
Go to start, settings, control panel, system, device manager, sound, vidoe game controllers. Select you your gameport-joystick and look at the properties.
They resources tab should show 201 and basic config 0. If it is 200-207 change it to 201!
Oh. and if it won;t let you change it manually try changin basic config from 0 to 1.

Latest News :

Tried that just now westy, but it won't let me change it to 201, it goes to 208-20F and it does not change a thing (after rebooting of course)

Settings 1 & 0 are the same

Tried another conntroler (had an old SB16) didn't work either

Well that is where the problem is

 Try these two ideas.
One: go to the same gameport- joystick window but go to the driver tab. Try and change the driver to the standard microsoft joystick driver. Should be C:\windows\system]msjstick.drv.

 Or two:
If that fails try this. Disable your sound cards gameport, Reboot. Now add a standard Microsoft gameport by

1.Single click on Start, Setting, and Control Panel from your start menu.
2.Double click on Add New Hardware
3.Single click on Next
4.Single click on the radio dial for No, the device is not on this list , then single click on Next
5.Single click on the radio dial for No, I will select from a list , then single click on Next
6.Double click on Sound, video and game controller
7.Single click on Microsoft for manufacturer and Gameport Joystick for model. Then single click on Next
8.The next screen should show your gameport with an Input/Output setting of 201. If so, then click Next .
9.Windows will then shut down your computer.

If that does not work. then delete the new gameport by removing it, reboot. Then re-enable your soundcards gameport and reboot. Look again and see if you have 201 for setting or can change it now. If not...
Well, after that I'm out of ideas.....

Thanks westy, I will try that...
Thing is , this is not a Windoze Issue, since the Joystick is Not recognised in Pure Dos mode at all

You can calibrate in Windows fine?? If so I forget what I am saying as the problem must be elsewhere.  You've tried using SpeedKeys     Is your stick set forfor 3 axis, 4 button?
Try a "CH reboot" on your stick? Hold the A, B and the small button on the top right of the joystick at the same time you turn your PC on. All the red buttons except for the one near the bottom of the front.
You might try this too if you are using Windows 98 try this CH program:

ftp://ftp.chproducts.com/pub/BetaSoftware/CHJoy98.exe

I had the same problem as you trying to use my equipment with my SB AWE64. I had to force the gameport/joystick to 201 from 200-208. It would not work otherwise.

I've done all that Westy, the Chjoy98 thing works fine...under Win 98. I set it up both as a 4 button standard/Ch fighterstick/ch combatstick........all the Windows settings work !

One thing not clear is the reboot of the Joystick : the paper says 2 buttons on the top (Not the trigger)...so, that's the 2 top ones right ?

Hardware seems fine : Joy port is recognised in Windoze but Not in DOS (Ie Win calibration works, but now the DOS one)

Keyboard works fine, and when am in DOS mode, I press the hats, I get some numbers appearing, meaning, it receives the signal from the Joystick.... But any calibration/keysetup software says : are you sure that the Joystick is plugged.....

So, meaning, it F** up  BEFORE I even enter windoze.....

Can you please make it clear the reset function ? Thank you

The paper is right Saintaw. I was messed up, sorry.  It is just the two buttons. The Pro throttle is the three bottons reset. The stick should be set for generic 3 axis, 4 button by the way. Try that setting.
This is one stubborn problem.    Hopefully others will check in tonight (Us time) and offer a fix or a tip to try out.

Well...changed the Card to another PCI slot : nothing

Tried another Keyboard : Nothing

I'm out of options now...

The chwin98 thingie finds the Joystick both in the Gameport set & in the Windoze mode....but NOTHING when I switch back to DOS

I think I'll sell it & buy a gun

Exactly why does it have to work in DOS mode?

If it works in Windows that should be good enough.
