 Considering the speed of technological development, I think seeing game graphics like that is indeed not too far away. As a matter of fact, fan-made movies using the temporary game IL2 series, looks remarkably life-like and incredibly realistic with some video enhancements and renderings.

 Perhaps in five years, but certainly no more than ten, I believe.

Indeed, and look at Lock On: Modern Air Combat.  The game is several years old but easily the best-looking aerial combat simulator on the market.  Gennadich's Great War simulator, Knights of the Sky, looks like it's going to also look very good when it is released.
