Was wondering when the P47 and P51 entered into service in the PTO what year and model, until then i'll just have the p47d-11 unlocked for my midwar PTO scenarios.
been searching and searching but can't find nuthin:cry all i find is "1942" but they are referring to the ETO with those years

on a side note.....we need the a6m3 hamp and ki-43 IIb oscar!!! that would fill a big fat gap in the IJN/JAAF planeset!

Razorback P47s and P51s were operational in the PTO.

The 14th AF in China got P-51Bs & Cs.
They got some P-47s also, but didn't like them too much because they ate too much fuel.
P-47s & P-51s came late to that theater, either because Curtis used the AVG's pwnage with the P-40 as a tool to sell more P-40s to the .gov for use in China or because Stillwell was a 'tard & didn't know or care much about air ops anyway

I recall most P-47Ds were only operational in CBI theater. P-47 was only accepted in PTO when the N model was introduced in 1945. P-51Ds also entered 1945 in PTO.

I believe that the first P-47s to see combat in the Pacific (SWPA) were with the 348th FG, circa June 1943. These were P-47C types. The 9th FS of the 49th FG received P-47Ds in November of 1943 to replace their war-weary P-38s. The 36th FS of the 8th FG began getting their's at the same time.

It appears the story goes, those squadrons mentioned by Widewing got Jugs so they could recycle the 38s so the in theater created 475th could stay in 38s

Didn't score many points with the 38 drivers from the other groups, Jerry Johnson and folks like that. Some of the 9th and 39th guys who flew 38s rotated home at the transition time including Dick Bong.

Jugs definately operating early with the early D-5s(?) with the 348th and Neal Kearby.

More Jugs later on and Mustangs as well. C and D model 51s in China and of course the VLR P51Ds operating off Iwo to cover the B29s.

Wrong. P-47 and the P-51 were operational in the PTO earlier than that.

The P-51 is still 1945.

The 23rd ftr grp in China began obtaining the P-51a in sept 1943.

Here's a table of the P-51 deployments in various theaters during WW2.

The first Mustangs to show up in the CBI and Pacific theaters was in Aug 1943 (P-51A, A-36, F-6 photo recon).

EDIT:
The 10th and 14th Air Forces got their Mustangs earlier than 13th AF, 5th AF, (and 20th AF).

The 10th and 14th operated in the CBI and got the first Mustangs in Fall 1943. As far as I can tell they also transitioned to P-51B/C's in March 1944.

The 13th, 5th, and 20th AF's operated in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and didn't get their Mustangs until the end of 1944 in the form of P-51D's.

348th Active in SWP by May-June 1943 flying P-47D2's/D5's. They flew early D's up to the D11 until early '44, when they began receiving D23's. Flew the D23's through the Phillipine campaign, transitioning into P-51's in January of '45. Other P-47 groups active early were 35th (who also transitioned into P-51's) and the 58th FG, who finished the war in the Jug. P-47's served in the New Guinea area, Saipan/Tinian/Guam, the Phillipines, and later in April '45, the 318th FG brought the first P-47N to Ie Shima/Okinawa. They were joined shortly thereafter by the 507th and 413th FG. One squadron of the 49th FG transitioned into Jugs when V Fighter Command ran out of P-38's for a short time.

A36's and P-51A's were simultaneously introduced in India and China in September of 1943. First "P-51D's" in the Pacific theater were the F-6D reconnaissance planes that arrived in the Phillipines in November '44--82nd TRS.
