Gun Trigger Delay
« on: June 07, 2000, 05:47:00 AM »
I'm using a 350 mhz 128 pc with a 32 mb Cougar video card. It has a 10 gb harddrive with 3 gb freespace left. Everything works fine in the game until I get an enemy in my sights. Just at the point I squeeze the trigger, I encounter a half a second lag/freeze screen before my guns will fire. This is very frustrating and has gotten me killed a number of times, especialy in head ons as the enemy is past me by the time my guns have fired.
Please don't tell me to start firing earlier as I fly the Spit 9 with the 50 cal loadout and you can burn through your ammo quickly.(those 303s are useless for anything other than creating a light show on the other airplane).
Thanks for any help.

Weave, what kind of sound card are you using? Some varient of a SoundBlaster Live card?

I use to get this problem, and I turned down my hardware acceleration on my sound card and it helped.

What's your sound card and DirectX version?

Vermillion, It's the stock card that came in the machine a ES1869 or something. Have never had any problems with any other flight sim I've flown.
Sharky, not sure what v-sync is or how to turn it off. Can you help me further on this?
Pyro, my direct X is version 7.0. I don't think there is a newer version out yet.

Thanx...

Weave, get 7a.  It is much better than 7.0.  There is a small patch to go to 7a at: www.microsoft.com/directx

You might also try different soundcard drivers.

I thought I'd add that those Ensoniq cards often won't work for Roger Wilco, so that may be a factor for you to consider as well.  (RW integration is a feature of 1.03 you know.   )

Thanx for the info, and the link guys. The 7a did make a difference. Also I've quit using RW as I noticed a lot of screen freezing when it was running. Did'nt seem to bother the other people on RW, just the guy hosting it, me.

Thanx again...

Weave,

v-snyc is a function of the video card syncronizing the drawing of each frame with the refresh rate of the monitor.  Usually you can find a place to select it under display propertys, although I think that with DX 7a you get v-sync on by default.  I know that with DX-7a on my system if I want to switch to v-sync off I have to go into the registry (DX-7 grayed out the radio buttons for v-sync)

Thanks spro, had a blast. BTW it's R&R (Rich & Rare) on the rocks for me.
I understand the new patch (version 1.03) is going to support multichannel RW. Can't wait, death by typing sucks, and not very good at it one handed, let alone with two.
Again, thanx all for the tech help!
