Can we get the F4U-1D fixed so she can carry her full ordinance load? Per the Vought manual, the 1D could carry a third bomb or drop tank on the center removable pylon in addition to the two permanent wing pylons.

I'm sure anyone who frequently flies the 1D heavy would appreciate the ability to up with full ordinance but also be able to take along some extra gas (it takes half the internal fuel JUST to get to a reasonable approach altitude of 10,000ft).

according to history.nav.mil & Corky Meyer's Flight Journal F6F-5 had a lot of ord mixes not available too

i read in a book (and i have it someplase if i need to varify with you guys) about a USMC pilot during the war had his F4u1a's equiped with 2 2000lbs bombs and 1 1000lbs bomb due to there airfield haveing a serplus of 2000lbs bombs and there runway being too short to land/take off with the B24's that the bombs were for. he was flying with lindberg when he showed the rigging for it to him. I got alot of books so it would take some time to dig up but i know i read it that way. 2x2000lbs and 1x1000 in center. on an F4u1a's

From talking to F4UDOA, it sounds like by the end of the war most 1As were field modified to carry the same ordinance load as the 1D. I'm guessing these were non-fixed pylons?
