Avgas has a SG of between 0.70 and 0.78.

The forward fuselage tank of the Fw190A-8 held 51 Imp gal while the rear fuselage tank held 64.5 Imp gal. That is 44% in the front and 56% in the rear. Weight was 904lb, 398lb front and 506lb rear.

The 115l aux tank's weight when full was 198lb.

ammunition for 2 MG131 - 77kg/170lb for 950rds
ammunition for 2 MG151 - 110kg/243lb for 500rds
ammunition for 2 MG151 - 64kg/141lb for 280 rds

removal of 2 MG151 and ammo - 389lb

ref. 190A-8 Handbook, Tech Description #284

The 30mm MK108 weighed 58kg or 128lb.

It seems the 30mm in AH is quite a bit heavier.

AFAIK it was always known that you need to run the rear tank dry first tomake the 190 handle better. In AH1 the front tank was automatically drained first but it was changed in AH2 to rear tank first.

I still find it hard to believe the story  about counter balancing. I'd like to see a source for this.

Notice in this link that the plane has the aux tank full (?) but it is flown without ETC501. Of course the practice in front line units could have been different. Indeed it is normal to see an A8 with ETC501 than without in wartime pictures, but there can be some other reason for its installation.

What is the weight of ETC501?

THAT is the question!

EDIT: Oh, and for charts and tests they probably left it off because it impedes climb and level speed (even if only by a little bit) -- most places want "clean" climb/speed charts, unless otherwise noted on the chart.

120 20mm rounds = 72 lbs

So that is MG/FF. Wasn't the FF used in 190 actually an MG/FFM capable of firing Minen ammo (700m/s MV), and why 60 rounds and not 90 as those ammo drums were availble at that time too and IIRC the dimensions were the same?

Hi,

the 190A8 seems to be a bit to heavy, no??

Almost 4400kg, while the default 190A8 get listed with 4300kg.

4300kg are already with the aux tank, while the AH 190A8 seems to weight 4300kg without aux tank, while the Aux tank only did keep 55kg.

The 190A8R2 (2 x MK108) almost have 4490kg in AH, while its listed with 4350kg, also inclusive the aux tank. Sounds more like a 190A8R8 in AH with a lot of additional plating.
The german datas base on a fuel weight of 0,7375kg/Liter (6,15lb/gal)
So the 4300kg include already 12kg more weight.

btw, in the right hands the 190A8 is a nice dogfighter, specialy in a team fight!! When the rollratio get used right, its difficult to catch a 190A8, only at very low level they get into real trouble(only F4U-4 and Lala are absolut deadly).

Greetings,

Knegel
