Dred, when you slam a car that low and then used 18 or 20 inch rims that doesnt leave a lot of room for rubber.  Some where on one of the forum threads of SW's he mentions something about reforming the wheel wells just to get the tires under there.

its hard to tell from a picture but those tires dont look that thin to me.

Diablo, I was the same way when I was younger, and probably in a way I still have my prejudices for certain cars.   My favorites have always been fat fendered rods like the 40 fords and 38 Chevys and led sleds like the late 40 and early 50 Mercurys.   Restored cars for me are ok and I appreciate the attention to detail and the work required to make a 100 point or near 100 point car but to me its not the same.

18" and larger wheels have always seemed silly to me.  It's definately a "style" thing, not a "performance" thing.  Lots and lots of people value style over performance, but I am just not one of those people.

Not even close.

Still, those two cars look nice.  Not where I'd want to go with the styling if either one of them were mine, but that's the point - they're not mine.  But as executions of what someone else thinks looks good, they're nice.

Exactly!

Love black cars if they are straight and those cars are very straight..   I don't like em too fancy myself and hate wheels bigger than 16"...  can't stand a hot rod with an automatic in it.   I just skim by the ones in mags with slush boxes.

My elky is a 69 but that one is close...   Fact is... if you finish a hot rod... everyone... and I mean everyone... will tell you "nice car but I don't like the..... "

Unfinished.. they can project... My Healey is in flat black.. people ask when I am gonna paint it.   I am sure that if I did they would all say... "nice car but I don't really like the color"

You have to build the car for yourself if it is a driver.. if it is a show car you need to build it for the judges.   I prefer a driver.   No matter what color an old hot rod is.. or even in primer.. it will get more attention than a $70,000 new car at the gas station or parking lot or... just going by.

There are as many different ways to customize car as there are people.  Everybody has an idea what they like and some people's ideas run pretty close together.  Personally I wouldnt use 18" rims but they look good on those two cars.  I dont ordinarily like flames on cars but sometimes they look good sometimes they look overdone IMO.  Like Lowriders, I can appreciate the work but I dont care for lowriders.  I think they are an abomination and they ruin perfectly good cars like 63 Impalas with 13" gold wire rims, funky paints jobs and 50 yards of crushed red velvet.  but it makes them happy and they like it and thats all that really counts.

Its like Nirvana said he would like to see more chrome under the hood.  I'm the exact opposite, I like the brushed, polished alumimum look and less chrome.  I think some guys overdo the chrome bit not just under the hood but all over the car.  If you look at the engine shot on the Mustang, SW decided not to have the bolts for the fenders painted and they stand out, personally for me I would have painted them

exactly right.  Rodney has said he will never personally build another car for himself to show because you have to built it for the judges and find out what appeals to the majority of the masses that go to the car shows to win.  its too much work and aggravation.  He'll still do body work and paint for them, give suggestions and help but not build them for himself.

Ok, so somebody at Picture Hanger felt my pain and gave me some more space so I'm puttin up a couple more pics

I have no illusions, I'll never realistically be able to afford any of these.
Rodney said that at the SEMA show, Dale Earnhardt Jr walked up to SW and offered $190k for the 69 Camaro and SW turned him down.  I dont think it was a matter of whether it was worth more, I think it was more like SW had just got the car out of the shop and it was still new and he had the magizine writeup and the catalog, he probably wanted to milk it for awhile before he sells it.  Rodney is selling the silver 69 Camaro for around $47,000 (i think)
