HOTAS (no pedals)

Just got a new CH Fighterstick and CH Throttle. Spent a couple hours last night trying to get them to work together. Didn't mess with the CH Control Center, went right into Aces High and notice:
1) There are some setting preset on the throttle - flaps, gear, head motion and some trim.
2) There were no presets for the stick. I had to set the pitch and roll to the X/Y axes.
3) I set the yaw to the left/right axis of the Throttle Mini-Stick.

Took off off-line just to see if I could control plane. Did OK, (will take getting used to) so I decided to set my views. Set up the 8-way hat on the Fighterstick to look in the usual directions, and set the triggers (0 & 1) to fire all and secondary. Took off again and Somehow I lost all the settings on the fighterstick except pitch and yaw! Set them up again, took off and lost all except pitch and yaw again! Stumped.

What's the best way to setup controllers with just CH HOTAS, no pedals, and how do I get it to stay? Do I need to go through the CH Control Center (another program to learn) or can I setup just using Aces High?

maybe a stupid question, but did you hit the OK button after mapping?

If youre sure you did everything right mapping, check your settings folder for the jsm files. I myself had had problems with "lost mappings" lately, and yesterday I found I had a second .jsm (slightly different name) in my settings folder. Maybe yours is "dubbed" as well. I havent begun troubleshooting it yet, but ill do so over the weekend, and let you know what I come up with.

For now, id try to delete ALL files with a .jsm extension in your settings and remap the stick/throttle from scratch.

I have used my CH suite without bothering with the CM software it comes with. However after I did use the CM Software I realised what I was missing! - It really is good.

I still set the various axis in AH so this should work for you OK

Keep in mind that using the CM Software you can save different templates as you find which set up works best for you. - Also allows you to use it all with ancient games as you can set Stick, throttle and pedals as one device!

I like your idea of the using the mini stick for Yaw - nice one. Still get the Pedals when you can, as the toe brakes come in handy to!

Bottom line is you can set up using just AH if you want to.

same here, the CM software works great...

calibrate there and in aces high and you should have everything available

With the cm software you can set . dot comands and 1  button to do up to 9 things. I use 1 button when in bombers to jump plane 1,2,3. There are many was to use this program the forums at CH can help.

You can set micro stick to be mouse  with CHCM.

The CH CM takes some learning but is well woth the effort.

Optiker.....  Were you able to get everything set up?  Also I didnt see you mention the pedals.  If you havnt already you will need to complete the set up with the Pro Pedals.

Well, I'm working through the new controller blues. Have calibrated and the stick&throttle are working well - programmed the mini-stick on the throttle to rudder. It's a circus taking off!

Operator issues:
Keep moving left hand to base of stick (old Logitech buttons). Nothing there!
Programmed views to both 8-way and 4-way on top of stick - it's a reach to grab 8-way.

Still working on which buttons (there are so many) to logically group functions.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the smoothness and much better "feel" of the CH controllers. Will (as finances allow) definitely get the pedals. I anticipate a whole new learning curve to manifest when that happens.

Interesting that. I tried it once and could not get on with it because it is uncomfortable with sustained use.

Airspro's mod to the combat stick would make the low four way hats awkward. OK on the combat stick as those are just single buttons (grey and red one).

Now I use the eightway on the throttle for level views and the up down on the stick four way hat for up and down views. You might say my views are all thumbs! but it works for me.
I have even set the front side button on the stick for a six view which combined with forward right or forward left gives me two more forward views looking dead ahead. Each of these has the head moved to see over the front side of the engine cowling.

Never thought of the two four ways with the fighter stick , yep they would be a pain I think . Damn glad I got the combat stick now hehe .

The joke is on me then!

In another thread "Stick-throttle Where to buy" I found myself making a rest for the fighter stick and it seems OK ! The four ways work fine with the "heel" of the thumb see about fourth posting in thread for picture.

As it was made of scrap, it was even cheaper than yours!

  I've been working thru exactly the same problems for about two weeks now with my set-up. I have also changed over to the CH Combat stick and CH throttle. One thing I've found that is working for me is to have the 4-way button on the stick (up and down) actuate my flaps up and down respectively. The left and right of the same button is the left and right rear views. I seem to be needing this one quite often during manouvering the F4U and it seems to be in the best location. I've mapped two of the buttons that are on the front of the throttle just under my fingers to the up and down views. That way when I'm flying, the "hat" button on the stick gives me my 8- level views, and with a push of the throttle buttons, I get the rest of the up and down views. It seems to be a logical placement for me, and comes naturally. Give it a try and see what you think. I can give you the rest of my set-up, but I think these just I explained are the critical ones I have. Let me know what you think.  See ya up

Also, as an added note, I've found that once I velcro'ed the stick and throttle down to my table, I've eliminated any unwanted movement of the controllers. Then I can remove them easily when the wife wants the computer for her stuff.

Folks I have a great Map for the CH Combatstick, Pro Throttle, and Pro Pedals....all USB.  I use control manager.  If you want it I can always make a copy of it and EMail it to you.

Yes please would like a control version setup for my Hotta's . I have always just used Ace's High but since using them in FS2004 , I have found they work good with that also .
