I have the latest NVDIA ref. drivers, but in 1024x768x16bpp I get a screen "flicker" every 10 seconds or so.

Any ideas?

Might be a driver bug associated with inmature drivers.  You might try DX 7a if you don't already have it.

(Why aren't you using 32 bit color btw???)

My wife has been bugging me for a faster pc so I gave her my "old" PII 450 and got a PIII 866 with a GeForce2 card. I told her that frames per second are critical!

I installed the 5.22 drivers and saw a BIG performance increase over the earlier drivers that came with the system. I get over 30 fps when sitting in a B17 on the runway at A1 with engines idling. (1600x1200 @32 bit color) I've found that frame rate varies according to which runway you choose. Actually a tough test would be to record frame rate in hanger at A1 with a B17. The colors are great and when I'm away from airfields I get sustained frame rates of 50+. Flying around airfields in a fighter I usually get 40+ fps, even at A1.

Unfortunately, I get occasional screen "flickers" as well. I also get this in Falcon 4.0.  F4 is even worse in that I always get a frozen screen after a minute or two.

Considering that these cards are so new, I'm hoping that this is a driver issue. Another post mentioned 5.30 drivers. I'll have to give them a try.

Last night I spent some time playing with the GeForce2 card. I tried changing AGP aperture settings, enabling/disabling AGP Fast Write and AGP 4x as well as moving graphic sliders around. None of these tweaks cured the "screen flashing" issue with the 5.22 drivers.

I installed some 5.30 drivers but didn't notice any change. Then I started installing different types of drivers. I got the fastest frame rates, with no "screen flashing", with a TNT2 driver, though the color and texture quality was somewhat drab. This driver screamed at 1600x1200x32. As a side note, one thing I've noticed flying at high res is that enemy cons are microscopic specks.  I came close to getting bounced several times!

Finally, I installed some older drivers from the Micron site (3.84) and the "screen flashing" disappeared. The only drawback is that the performance is half that of the 5.22 drivers. Even Falcon 4.0 was working again. The frame rates in AH are decent at lower resolutions with these drivers so I'll be going with these for now.

To sum it up, this card has a lot of potential but in my case this potential will remain unrealized until better drivers come along.

System specs:
Micron Millennia MAX GS133
Intel Pentium III processor 866MHz
128MB 133MHz SDRAM-1 DIMM
10GB ATA-66 hard drive (7200 RPM)
Ultra ATA-66 32 bit local bus integrated controller
32MB DDR NVidia GeForce2 GTS AGP
12X40X Variable speed DVD ROM
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live
Microsoft Windows 98SE
ViewSonic G810 21" Monitor

I've now found that disabling vertical sync makes the flicker problrm go away, but goes against my own Squaddies advice of DON'T DISABLE VSYNC.

I haven't seen the rubber bullet problem, not that my gunnery is good enough to notice anyhow.

I run a GeForce also, if I use the 5xx series ref drivers, Rogue Spear won't run. But if I use the 3.90 ref drivers there is no probs at all. And I don't have to remove vert sync either.

BTW, the 5.xx series does give a performance increase in most games, but too many have problems with these drivers to use them.
