Last night I spent some time playing with the GeForce2 card. I tried changing AGP aperture settings, enabling/disabling AGP Fast Write and AGP 4x as well as moving graphic sliders around. None of these tweaks cured the "screen flashing" issue with the 5.22 drivers.
I installed some 5.30 drivers but didn't notice any change. Then I started installing different types of drivers. I got the fastest frame rates, with no "screen flashing", with a TNT2 driver, though the color and texture quality was somewhat drab. This driver screamed at 1600x1200x32. As a side note, one thing I've noticed flying at high res is that enemy cons are microscopic specks. I came close to getting bounced several times!
Finally, I installed some older drivers from the Micron site (3.84) and the "screen flashing" disappeared. The only drawback is that the performance is half that of the 5.22 drivers. Even Falcon 4.0 was working again. The frame rates in AH are decent at lower resolutions with these drivers so I'll be going with these for now.
To sum it up, this card has a lot of potential but in my case this potential will remain unrealized until better drivers come along.
