Is there any way to get AH to ignore REALLY rapid input?
The spikes that I'm getting are causing the Move your stick slower message to appear, if I could get it to ignore input that is to rapid, it might cause the spiking to go away.

Karnak, that will not fix you're stick spiking problem. One thing I did when I had this problem when AH first came out, was to use a program called WBStick with my Warbirds joystick.cfg file, then copy the settings into my Aces High joystick.cfg file. I can't explain exactly how it works, I can't remember and am at work now. But it basically resets the limits of your joystick inputs and sets them appropriately for the stick you are using, not the default/genereic settings Windows uses.

Another fix or help might be to get a new sound card with a "digital" gameport or a dedicated gameport card such as the PDPI L4 Gamecard. Digital gameports take and 'average' of your stick inputs before reporting them to the computer.

Also you might try taking your stick apart and cleaning the pots, I have done this many times to my CH sticks with no problems. You can either use Electrical Contact Cleaner(spray can) to wash them out, or do like I do and take them completely apart and clean them. You have to be carefull when taking them apart however, they are a bit fragile. If you have a CH stick you can have them (CH) send replacement pots, if it's under warranty they might send them free or ask you to send the stick in, if not, they are relatively cheap I believe. Also make sure your joystick cables are not routed near any power supply cords, magnets(speaker) or any other source of electrical interference.

If you need more assistance and want to try the WBStick thingy, email me and I send you the file and the instructions on how to set you're Aces joystick.cfg file. Results may vary depending on the joystick you are using, but it might be worth a shot. It is more likely however, that your joystick pots are worn out or need a real good cleaning.

Karnak, have you tried altering your "Poll without interrupts" checkbox in the windows joystick panel?

Thanks for replying, Pyro.  Yes I have tried the "Poll Without Interupts", but I'm afraid it didn't affect the problem.

I think I might have a lead on it now.  I was testing my sound in EAW because I've been getting static pops through my Sound Blaster Live, and that just shouldn't happen.  What I noticed was that the static went way up when I was down low looking out across all of those polygonal trees and buildings, but when I put the nose up and looked at the flat sky, the static went away.  It seems that I'm riding the cusp of my power supply. as soon as the GeForce DDR needs more juice to throw out those polies, then the Live Platinum no longer gets enough juice.  If I do a 2D video, like watch a DVD or play a 2D game, I'm fine.  This may be affecting my joysticks and it would explain why I don't get spiking when I'm in the simple Joystick setup area, but when I move to the polygon intensive cockpit and world, the static and spikes go through the roof.  EAW has a much lower Poly count than AH, and so might experience additional problems, in this case the spiking.

tshred, I would very much like information on WBstick.  Thanks.

Your problem sounds like the well known use of the soundboard gameport problem. Thrustmaster even singles out the Soundblaster Live (I have one to) as being a problem with the use of the soundboard joystick. Your trying to run too much through the board. I would strongly recommend you look into a stand alone gameport board like tshred recommended. You can try all the other patch type fixes, but don't expect much improvement until you get a stand alone card. Also, be carefull that you don't mess up your sound board trying to fix a problem that can't really be fixed.

Considering all the money you've put into the computer, soundboard, video board, and AH one of these excellent stand alone game  boards will only cost about $60+- and usually give excellent results.

I use the PDPI l4 and it's excellent for online gaming. I'm thinking about going to a set of USB joystick/throttle set up tho.

Good luck

I'm not using the Sound Blaster Live as my gameport.  I've disabled the joystick port on thr Live and am using a Thrustmaster ACM gamecard.

Is the PDPI L4 Gamecard better than the Thrustmaster ACM gamecard?

Well that kinda shoots down my guess.

The PDPI l4 is superior to the thrustmaster, but it may not solve your problem. I have used the soundboard port, Gravis adjustable card, thrustmaster adjustable card, and now the pdpi l4 and there is a major difference for online flying. I don't think you'll see much for offline, but online it's a big help.

With the pdpi you won't have to adjust the poll with interrupts setting in the control panel. That's a poor microsoft patch type fix to an online joystick problem. The pdpi will fix that.

Anyway, I'm not sure going from thrustmaster to pdp1 l4 will fix your problem. It really sounded to me just like the old soundboard joystick problem? You got the poll with interrupts set right?

Copy this to your address line and check out the stats of the pdpi l4.

Try turning your damping slider up for the axis that spike.  This will limit the maximum speed you can move your controls essentially, and shout help the situation.  However, this will also limit how "quick" you can react with your flight controls, but that is a trade-off you will have to make.
