Pirate shirts are silk, and if you get shot with a low-velocity round while wearing a silk shirt, sometimes the silk doesn't rip so you can pop the bullet back out by pulling on the shirt.

Plus a lot of really good fighter pilots flew under the "yankee air pirates" flag...

Let's look at some facts. Pirate= dresses in poofy blouses, wears hats with feathers, scurvy, cabin boys. Cowboy= dresses like the village people, talks to animals, then wrestles said animals and ties them up. Ninja= dresses like johnny cash, freaks out and cuts peoples' heads off.

The ninja is the obvious favorite.
