NIce looking plane, not as nice as its predeccesor the spitfir but pretty 'spiteful' looking.

Think it might be a decent addition to RAF planset.

No combat, post war, not very good, not needed.

Sorry.

Spit 21 at least served operationally with 91 Squadron and saw limited combat.

Looks like what would happen if a Spitfire mated with a Mustang.

More like Spitfugginfast.

Cancelled development because of the Jet engine and it wasnt needed.  Could do 494 mph if i remember rightly.

A development of it was made for the Royal Navy, called the Sea Fang, but that lost out to the Sea Fury.

i bet 494 is a pretty high Mach number at the altitude they got that speed at.
i looked a bit on the net, but couldn't find a reference to the altitude that goes along with that speed, though...   :noid

As mentioned before, never saw combat.
Cancelled when it was realised that with the advent of the jet age, the laminar flow wing didn't give enough of a increase to be worthwhile developing further.

Spit F.21 did though, and would be a worthwhile perked Spit as opposed to the XIV.
446mph @ 22,600ft and 4x20mm of luv.

Never seen a IX with a 4x20mm loadout, Mk V's did get them though.

The 4x20mm on the IX was an option, but problems with heating the outer guns seemed to stop the option actually being used.

Theoretically any spit with the universal wing could have carried quad 20mm.

Yeah but the F.21 and later had redesigned wings. (see pic earlier)

The only ones with universal wings that ever seemed to carry the quad 20mm option were the Vc's.
Oh, and a couple of Aussie Mk VIII's.
