Hanger Strengh and Ordinance
« on: February 07, 2007, 10:07:45 AM »
I was trying to figure out how strong hangers are in order to decide best salvo and loadout for jabo's.

I read the Aces High webpage, and on there they indicate a FH, BH and VH need 3,000 lbs of explosive to take them down (late war)

I am not sure that is correct, because I have consistantly taken hangers down with 2 1000 lbs bombs and 6 rockets.

I had always assumed that the rockets(6" HVAR) were worth 100lbs of explosive, and that the hanger would require 2,600 lbs to take it down.

So somewhere I am making an error.  Either my rocket assumption of 100lbs is correct, and a hanger needs 2,600 lbs.  Or the hangers do in fact need 3,000 lbs,  and the rockets are more like 166.7 lbs of explosive.

Anyone know for sure?

In addition to the above, one time a guy was saying it only took 2 rockets to take down a dar, ord or barracks.  (I said use 3)

It kindof relates to the above.  3 seems to work, and I guess I'll try 2 tonight to see.

2 rockets is enough for barracks, ord, fuel or radar.

2 1000 lb bombs + "some" rockets are enough for 1 hanger (even though I usually pump in 6 I think 4 might do the trick).

At a vehicle base you can take the 2 hangers that are together with 2 1000 lb bombs plus 6 rockets (probably due to blast radius/proximity damage).

As to hangers, etc. in general I use the AH chart to be on the safe side.

IIRC
I believe that rockets are closer to 150 lbs.

Murdr has a chart I'll see if i can find it.

The AH numbers are old and out of date.

Last I recall it was either 2500 or 2400 total lbs for a hangar.

Considering P47s carry 2500lbs alone in ord, plus rockets, it makes them great hangar killers (2x 1k, 1x 500, 10rkts)

Edit: Oh, and take 6-gun LIGHT option. You don't need a further 1,000lbs of ammo making your climb even worse with 3,000lbs already installed!

Thanks for the posts Bronk and Krusty.

I read the thread Bronk posted, seems Murdr finds the 5" rockets at about 156 lbs give or take a fraction.

I think Krusty is right that the AH training page is out of date, ie saying hanger requires 3,000 lbs of ord.

My guess is it is like this.  If only two 5" rockets are needed for ord, dar, barracks, and they need 300 lbs, then the 156 lbs of HE seems to be correct.

I'm going to reset salvos to 4 when using a jabo, try to get hangers with 2 1000 lbs and 4 rockets.

Would be nice to hear from the AH staff on this, rather than us just sorta stumbling through it with our best guesses and deductions.

Dredger for base strat stuff (fuel, troops, ords and dar) it's 250 lbs.
You can test this with (1)  250 lb bomb.

Bronk what if it's less than 250lbs? Can't the 50kg on the Ju88 (110lbs) or the 100kg on the IL2 (220lbs) also take down strat?

If it is less than 250 lbs it's still more than 1 rocket will take out.

Well instead of trying every bomb available.
.50 cal close enough to 1 lb of damage.
I upped a jeep drove to an ammo bunker and took 250 rounds to kill it.

That good enough now Krusty?

The nominal (advertised) value on the Hanger hardness is 3 x 1,000lbs bombs.  There has always been a margin of error for this.  Which I guess assumes that at least one or all of those three bombs will be partially off center, and not deliver 100% of the blast on the target.

The linear (actual setting) is 2,781.2lbs of ordinance.  Which allows for 8% of the blast radius to miss the target, but still destroy it.

Thanks for the post.   Now the 5" rockets are valued at 156 lbs of HE correct?

If this is true, the absolute minimum for a jabo (assuming allied loadout) to kill an undamaged hanger is

(2) 1k lb bombs and (5) 5" rockets, everything hitting nuts on?  Is that correct?

Strat objects settings are 312.5lbs.

If you do the math, that is exactly the value of 250 rounds of GV .50 cals @ 1.25 per round.

Non of this is top secret.  You can start the game in offline mode and go to options>arena setup>objects>object hardness.  The offline values were current with the server settings as of last July when we set up the new TA map.  I have no reason to believe they are not current now.  (This assumes you had not changed and saved those setting in offline mode on your system previously)

Rgr that DREDger.  5" HVAR are confirmed as 156.3lbs.

Murdr  Just tried something off line .
While it takes 250 .50 from a jeep. It only takes 2  50 kg bombs to kill a strat object.

Will retry to  make sure .  But something is not right.
