Problems in Tank Town
« on: January 29, 2007, 02:58:24 PM »
I want to start out by saying this first. I enjoy this game very much.  I have made friends on all sides of the map over the years. I don’t post much on here so I hope that the time I spent writing this holds some weight to the concerns I have with the actions with a lot of people that fly and tank in and around Tank Town.

(Rule 1)
First off this is a game ….If you cant handle it step away for awhile…go to another arena…spend time with your family ….get a job….or go do your homework.. Anything but lose it.

I watched guys just absolutely lose their minds over what has happened in TT.  “ That S.O.B bombed me!” …” He’s on the hill I cant hit him! “…” He killed me to many times!”…. “They took our VH Base!”… Blah Blah Blah.

Let’s try and remember this is a War game. In such a game you get Bombed, Die and Land is taken from your side. There are no real rules as to how to take a base or what should or should not be bombed. It’s War, get use to it. If you don’t like it then see rule 1.

With that said, it seems that some people are logging on just to upset the people in tank town. Knowing that if they bomb tank town it will start a bunch of verbal flack on channel 200. Giving them the attention they seem to crave. Another maneuver that’s seems to get a lot of attention, yet more extreme is one side taking over, or locking out TT so that the other side can’t tank.  Now as I understand it both these tactics are within the game rules that Hitech has set forth.

I believe the “spirit” or idea of Tank Town was a place for people that wanted to drive tanks could go to blow each other up and yet be participating in a combat scenario, stay in contact with squads, and generally have a good time. This has changed it seems, and not for the better. People are getting upset, we are losing good people from TT and the game, Hitech is getting a lot of complaints and if this continues don’t be surprised if we lose TT like we did Fighter Town. I personally don’t want to lose Tank Town.

So what can be done?
Unfortunately most of the changes I suggest will have to come from Hitech.

Here are a few Ideas I came up with:
1.With the current TT map make either the Airbase or the Vehicle base associated with each country uncapturable until close to the end of the war.  Hitech has added the ability to display uncapturable fields with a red rectangle around the field number on the map.

2.With the current map and future maps, make the TT VH bases harder to bomb. increase the hardness of TT VH’s or adding more Ack guns.

3.On future maps surround TT with 25K high mountains. This way if the bombers want in to TT bad enough they have to work at it a bit.

4.On future maps create more than on VH per side in TT. This way if one does get bombed the tankers can just move over to the next VH.

5.If you are a sensitive person and a easily swayed by the comments of others on Channel 200, please understand this… Channel 200 is a voluntary Channel which mean means that if you don't like what's said on 200 then don't tune in. However I am not suggesting that verbal personal abuse or bad language ever be accepted on 200. I’m just suggesting being the bigger person and ignoring them or turn it off.

Now let’s look at something else. Put yourself in Hitech shoes. You have an environment that is causing you daily headaches. You try to see if it will work it self out over some time. It doesn’t. You even ban a few for being troublesome players for acting up. Someone tell me from a business point of view why would Hitech want to keep dealing with this?  Is it possible to think that Hitech could say “no more Tank Town. We do not want to continue diverting resources to something that is causing us problems”

I understand that not all that use Aces High go to TT. I don’t know what the percent of players are that use TT. I do know this. There are a lager number of people that enjoy TT very much and spend countless of hours of their free time in TT. As one of the Tanker in TT, I’m asking Hitech to please take the time and make better changes to TT. I have listed a few above that may help. I am also asking the players to please calm down. Again, it’s only a game.
Remember Rule one.
I understand that the changes need and will come in terms of TT. I hope we all can work and play well together and enjoy this. But without TT I feel the game loses a major part of the game.
Thank you for reading this.

You sure picked a doozy for your first post there comet.  The TT map had been up quite a long time this month becuase of uber difficult capture settings, and some server issues of not resetting map to another map.  Everyone seemed to be getting a tad bit testy over it.

Anyway, I put up a similar post on this called 'Winning TT Map' and boy did it start up a tirade (you can find it, it's not that far down).  My position was you had to take TT center to win map (under win conditions of 50/50)

I also suggested making TT center uncapturable as you have done, or put up the isolating mountains etc.

Anyway, lota different opinions on this one, good luck with it.:noid

Excellent post...It's nice to see a player w/ a down to earth attitude....as allways the problem in this game is the players ....it's so 'hip' to complain

keep your chin up comet....and do like I do   .squelch anybody who bothers you.....and keep up your possitive attitude

Excellent post.

We keep seeing the same ideas for improvements to TT. Make the bases uncaptureable and harden the hangers. The current system now allows for this.

We have a great game, and this would only make it better.

I also noted a problem with tanktown, it was full of people in....trucks.  so I upped a stuka with a moab and killed a bunch of them (they seem to enjoy congregating in close proximity).  here's the problem just like roaches at a chinese restaurant they returned almost immediately.  something must be done.

I doubt they are planning to do any changes to the TT map.  As far as seeing it again I am sure it will come back into rotation, although once will be too soon IMO.

I read in the Aces High trainers webpage yesterday a little about TT and FT (fighter town) maps under ettiquette.  They indicated although it is capturable, it is not needed to win the war...so those bases should be 'left alone'  (of course that was before the 50/50 capture scenario, which has changed now to 40/40)
