I can reset computer and then calibrate my joystick.  After running AH for about 1.5 to 2 hours the joystick output becomes extremely spikey.

I mean that I start out playing AH with rock solid lines on the AH joystick scope.  Then 2 hours later the scope lines are jumping all over.  The game is basically unplayable.

This happens the same with 2 new joysticks and/or 2 different gameports.  It don't matter how I configure them, sooner or later the spikes start.

This does not matter if the computor is left on for hours or not, as soon as I begin playing AH, 2 hours later the stick goes south.

After years of using analog joysticks and having no problems, what is the deal with this?

I recently re-formated my C: drive, and re-installed Win98 and all drivers clean.

Thanks in advance!

Mino I had same problem while back, mine turned out to be dirty pots but you have new sticks. I also found that I was hitting the trim wheel on the joystick which caused this alot. No idea for new stuff though.

Indian;

I suspected dirty pots, but had to discount that.  Two different analog joysticks a CH FigherStick and a TM FLCS.  The CH is new and the TM has new pots.

I have tried two different game ports, same thing happens in any event.  I start playing and the stick is rock stable.  Sooner or later it becomes unplayably spikey.

Thanks!

What kind of gameport are you connecting thru? If it is a soundcard, I have heard that some brands are susceptible to overheating and that over time it heats up and degrades performance.

Just an idea.

Does it go away if you recalibrate in AH?

No Pyro...

The one thing that seems to work is unloading the joystick driver, then reseting the computor then reloading the joystick driver.

I thought about overheating Westy, but same thing happens with too seperate game ports.  One is a sound card the other is a TM ACM card.

Thanks!

Hey Mino, if you find out what's wrong, let me know. I have a whole CH setup that I can’t use for this every reason. It Gets better when I reinstall the joystick Drv but comes back slowing over a few hours.
IMO it's something to do with DX6 and higher as that’s when I noticed it first on another machine.

I'm almost certain that this is a heat related problem mino...I'd look at your sound card 1st, then your vidio card. Are either running hot, or next to a component that is. Since it doesn't appear to be "time" dependent your CPU is probably not the problem...but AH will load up your sound and vidio card, especially if you have a GPU on board.

You can get a fan that plugs into a pci or isa slot. I'd put one right between your sound and vidio card and see if it helps.

Pretty sure that it is not heat related.  I have a tower case, an intake air fan and another fan that blows directly across my MB expansion card rack.  I seldom turn off my computor.

Thanks Indian I'll try that beta driver.

Did you ever solve the problem PC?  Currently I have Dx 6.2 installed, as I believe that comes on the Win98 CD that I have.

After hearing about Crab's problem, I'd suggest the video driver update.  It's worth a shot.

No Mino, I did not. I did however get a new USB stick and have not had a problem since. The rudder that I use is still on the game port of the soundcard and still spikes. I have called SoundBlaster and spent hours on the phone with them to no avail. The Game port stick spikes in windows a little and did it in AW3, but here I couldn't fly with it.
My problem started when I went up from DX5.

I have no idea what to do to fix this, except go to USB.

I miss my CH Throttle.

PC;

I gave up myself and went with a USB joystick.

Guess what!  You can have your CH throttle and your USB joystick  by reading my post here on how to do this.  If you can't figure it out, contact me online and I will tell you how to do it.

Good Luck!

Guys,

If you have a Soundblaster Live and a VIA chipset mainboard, go to http://www.viahardware.com  and download the 4.31 VIA 4-in-1 drivers and install them.
