Sun hurts my eyes
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:46:30 AM »
Last night flying in the blue arena the sun was real bad. A sharp shooting pain really. Threw to the back inside of my eyeballs. I noticed today my eyes seem sensitive to light and the pain is lingering somewhat.  Is there any doctors or eye doctors that play this game that may know if I am causing injury to my eyes. Does anybody else ever have this problem? Or, does anybody else know anything about this. Suggestions, comments, etc

Thank you very much.

Hi Clutz..

I'm not a doctor by any stretch of the imagination but I've always been sensitive to bright lights (such as a camera flash), especially in the peripheral area. Any exposure, even for a second in my peripheral area and I can be partially blinded for hours and experience extreme headaches.

In the direct forward area, it takes a while for it to take effect. In the game I avoid going toward the sun for extended periods or I will be down for at least an hour.

I don't think the game is doing damage. I think those of us with some existing damage or condition are just more sensitive to certain things. I do know that whenever I get new glasses (which I'm due for now), the problem seems less severe. You might want to have your eyes checked. You may need glasses (or new ones).

And one big piece of advice my eye doctor gave me is to make a concious effort to blink while at a computer. Most people don't realize they are staring at the screen and their eyes dry out.
Most of the people you meet in life are like slinkies. Pretty much useless, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Sometimes I think I have alzheimers. But then I forget about it and it's not a problem anymore.

I keep a pair of $5 sunglasses ontop of PC...if the sun is an issue I just pop 'em on ....also choose a flight plan that takes the sun into account...if the sun is low in the east/west ...then fly north/south

There is a cool little program called Powerstrip that you can use to adjust gamma and brightness of your graphics card while you're in a game (among other things). If the sun got too bright for you, you can just bind a hotkey to lower the gamma and hold it down for a second, then raise it back up when it's not a problem.

adjust your head position in the cockpit to put a crossbar infront of the sun if you have to fly towards it.

And.. don't spend too much time in front of pc.

Overt masturbation can drain your body from certain minerals that cause sensitivity to sunlight.

Not suggesting anything but.. :D

Yep, exactly.  Move your head up, down, left, right, wherever needed to block the sun.  Sometimes I'm so far down into the cockpit I'm chewing on my knees.
