Go tell the Spartans stranger passing by.
That here obedient to their laws we lie.

P.S.  Do you think you could have done what those 300 did?

There are few today who have their level of physical conditioning and military training.

History has numerous examples of small bodies of highly trained men holding at bay vastly superior enemy forces.

At the Battle of Maldon in 991 A.D. three warriors, Wulfstan, Aefhere, and Maccus, successfully held a narrow coastal causeway against a Viking army of nearly 4000 men.  They only retreated when ordered to do so by their lord, the Ealdorman Brythnoth.

There was a somewhat larger technological disparity at the Drift than there was at Thermopylae.

That's not meant to take anything away from those at the Drift; still quite a stand there.... and they won the field, unlike the Spartans.

not to take away from the spartan victory because that is eactly what it was, a very successful delaying action that was extremely costly to the persians.  one can safely speculate that the average persian foot soldier was thinking "these guys have how many more cousins?"  the drift, I can't recall exactly but I believe it was somewhere on the order of 140 british conscripts surrounded by over 6000 angry zulus.  these very few men absolutely wiped out masses of highly skilled, motivated and brave opponents.  I believe eleven VCs were awarded in the aftermath of this battle in the anglo-zulu war.

At Thermopylae the Spartans were backed by 2000 other Greek warriors.

Those 2000 retreated after a traitor showed the Persians a secret pass through the mountains.  The Spartans held the pass long enough for the other Greeks to avoid being encircled and wiped out.

Holy Cow:
"Most of the film was shot at high speed, between 50 and 150fps. Normal film is at 24fps. "

Does this movie have a lot of slow-mo?  What speed would they play it back at in the theater?  Why 50 to 150 fps?  I’m so confused!

Two possibilities, the trailers being shown on TV have quite a bit of slow-mo in them in them as mentioned but I think the other possibility may be Hi-Def.  Hi-Def operates at 60FPS while film usually is limited to 24fps.  That means that Hi-Def is capable of greater resolution than film actually is and the transfer to HD from film means you have to interpolate the data for those missing 36 frames, that's why many films transferred to HD don't look "hi-def".  On the other hand, many really like the "film-like" look of true film so using actual film instead of electronic HD cameras may be the "artistic" goal.  Mind you I'm just guessing here but it seems like a reasonable theory.

Could also be the fact that it's going to be available in IMAX.  I plan to see this one if it's released here.
