Hmmm,..I wonder if ground loops are going to be an issue. It has been and issue in the past when connecting two different switching power supplies to electronics which shared the same ground plane.

The only way around it is for the add-on supply to have a physical connection to the other supply. I cannot tell in the picture if that is the case or not.

wouldnt it ground through the cable where it connects
to main PSU? in pic 2 under Application for PC System pics.

it shows the 2 PSUs connected via the 24pin cable.

THere's an adapter that goes on the motherboard 24-pin plug, and it adds a 4-pin plug that this new PSU plugs into. Said it was for synchronicity or something along those lines. I'm guessing that's to avoid problems.

Although it all seems like overkill to me.

I've seen a $6,000 Lexicon Amp fall victim of a ground loop. It wasn't mine thank God, I'd have gone postal.

$54.00 at Newegg.
That's a heck of a lot cheaper than upgrading a whole power supply.
Question I have though is if it's coming off the existing unit, how is it making a difference?

edit - disregard the question. The pictures on Newegg show where it has it's own external plug.

Oh it hurt and it wasn't even mine. I almost cried for my buddy and he relieved me of that responsibility, by balling his eyes out for a couple of minutes. His warranty had expired 4 months prior. Lexicon felt bad and gave him $2,000 credit towards a new one.

I still piss him off by calling him "Loopy".
