If we're not getting the B-29 - then maybe HTC could arrange beer in the officers mess? It's a bit spartan in there - needs a bar.

A perk a pint - delivered to your door. :)

...and beer MUST have made an inpact on the war somehow...

...too many and the pilot passes out before taking off  :)

Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

Ohhh man! :aok :D :aok   I want one... at least one... and the ability to send the drones in to attack targets with drone commands!

Imagine, if you will, four players with 1 or 2 AI's A-26's, and the ability to send those AI's in to strike on their own! :O

Besides, the letter A, comes before the letter B

we dont need another small bomber like the a26. we need the b29, with no nuks.( all the noobs would be bombing the base back to the stone age)

it wouldnt be hard to make the b29, you just modify the b 17s body.

there were only 3,000+ of them in service for 18 months... I mean that's ONLY 300 times as many in service than 3 canon LA7s... and only 15 months longer too lol

Hey... Call me sentimental.  The lady was in three wars.   The B-29 barely made one.

The Invader, would have been there from '43 on, if it weren't for the fact the engines she used were going to those bent wing blue boys, and the Jug.  She was still up and around fighting forest fires until Y2K.

Where was the B-29 after Korea?  Running errands as converted passenger liners, and target drones for the AF's new missiles.

The A-26, redesignate B-26 after the war when the Havoc was retired, has earned her place in immortality.  It's only fitting that we honor her in the best MMO WW2 flight sim around, don't you think?

Actually, re-designated B-26 when Marauder was retired in 1948.  The Invader was a replacement for A-20 Havoc, B-25 Mitchell, and B-26 Marauder.  Was also re-re-designated back the the A-26 during Vietnam so USAF could operate it from Thailand --- we were not allowed to operate "bombers" out of there during the war.

And more than just our 3 wars: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam with America.  The Soccer Wars in Central America, operated in El Salvador in CAS role during the revolutions and civil wars in the '70's, served in both Indonesia and Brazil military in the 1960's, and with the French in Indochina in '52 and Algeria in '59. This in addition to being operated as executive planes and water bombers in the U.S. and Canada.  About 40 still airworthy around the world, IIRC.

For myself, I want something to spend my buff perks on.  A "hot rod" for buff drivers.

The Green Skin above is modeled after the 3rd Bomber Group operating out of the Philippines in 1945.

WWII, Korea, The Cold War - 3

The B-29 was such an impressive weapon the Commies had to steal it... Copied it  rivet for rivet under death threats from Stalin himself.  (See Tu-4 NATO appropriately named "Bull")  It stayed in Soviet service until the 1960's  The Chinese are STILL using 10 to 20 of them TODAY!

Research that the B-29 participated in, the X-series planes and their offspring has had long reaching effect.  We went into space thanks to some of the experiments that took place in B-29's.  They became Guppy type cargo aircraft, passenger liners, Tankers... You name it, soooooooo many variants... that airframe served us a VERY long time!

Their use in The Cold War, yes even as target drones made it possible for us to perfect weapons and tactics we use today.  It is not unreasonable to argue that the B-29 use during this time period is still serving us today.

To TRY to imply this was an unimportant aircraft has me scratching my head...  Sure I am all for an A-26 / B-26  I say the more planes the better!  (That's one reason I love the Il2 Series Games!)

Been stated many times in the boards that the B-29 won't be added to the game.  Various reasons given, from it's high altitude and operating speeds at altitude, to it's massive bomb load out, to nook controversy.

One practical limitation that may exist:  how much RUNWAY does a fully loaded B-29 take to get off the ground?  Maximum takeoff weight of a B-29 (Loaded weight: 120,000 lb / 54,000 kg) is TWICE that of an Avro Lancaster (Loaded weight: 63,000 lb / 29,000 kg).  Lanc can barely get up fully loaded from some fields now and clear the trees and hills.

Even with about twice the Horsepower a B-29 has compared to a Lanc, does a B-29 have any chance at all of getting off the fields in-game, or would fields and maps all need work to support it addition?

Im guessing that the reason we wont get the A-26 is the same as why we wont get the ME410... both has remotley controlled turrets.

Not sure where the thing about remote controlled turrets (or barbettes) originated from, but from the Invader thread under Aircraft and Vehicles:

I just realized why we won't get this plane.
The turrets are remotely operated. Same reason we won't get the B-29!
Well, at least, once HTC figures out a solution to this problem  (convergence when the guns aren't at the aiming spot) we'll look forward to both the B-29 and the A-26.

We can't do a remotely operated turret? Oh crap, I need to pull the B-17G out of the game right away.

It's in reference to the chin gun on the remodeled B-17G.

I can't see this as being a difficult problem to solve - are not the guns on drones already offset from the observer's POV?
