Foresight or Teenage Retardation
« on: February 15, 2007, 10:39:40 PM »
Well I'm bored so I figure I'll let some of you see me and a few of my freinds point of veiw on our status in the world today.

* Before I start I am not bashing anyone in the military, My grandfather and father bothe server along with many of my family and freinds, I respect them all for doing their jobs and doing what they have to do*

I look at the world in a percarious way as of now. I am one of the more informed youths as i watch the news and read alot of online news sites. From what I understand we are picked our questionable fight with Iraq
over Wmd's that we can't find. A funny man once said " If I had Wmd's I think an invasion would be a nice time to use them." I also find us now picking a fight with Iran and some other countries. It seems to me that
we *The Us* have been picking alot of fighs lately and making alot of people angery. The way me and my circle see it, we are becomeing the germany of WW2 only without the allies. For the most part I disagree with
the war, I dislike bush and many of his poloicies, I don't really like what we are sending our boys to do. I do however respect the boys and girls overseas for doing their jobs regaudless and being good soldiers.
For me it seems like we are all being lead down a very dark path that won't end to well.

As for the home country and all those not at war what seemed to start as just childish talk of rebellion ranging from kill them all to just the president has grown and spread into a " We need to fix our country before someone else decides to, By any means even violence" mentality has began brewing and spreading among the teenagers and adults. I fear that we may be on the brink of another large scale war, civil war, or both. I support the idea that we need to fix alot of things in our country and that I would even fight for it as much as I don't want to.

I feel as do many others that we have fallen from the old stature of a free country of unlimited opertunities to a small minded, opressive, and down right faciest place. As these are only opinions and worth only the paper they are printed on alot of use think we need change. I try to think of us as one of the more peaceful group of thinkers it scares me that some of the older and same age groups are talking of full scale war with the goverment.

I am only hoping that as people we can sit down and resolve our issues instead of having to fight our brothers and sister or a forgein force or possiably both for control of our own country.

But agian these are just the veiws of a few teenagers that observer what is going on around us.

Feel free to share I'm curious to see what you all think about the world as a whole today.

America is too full of ******* to start any war where the ******* had to actually give something up.  They'll stick a magnet on their SUV or whine to their coffee shop friends, but not be inconvenienced by chipping in.  So don't worry, as long as the big screen TV's come cheap most of America won't lift a finger to change anything.  Bread and circuses.

Dryroasted, what you're describing has more to do with a poor education than reality and you're obviously relying on CBS news and Moveon.Org for your information.  By failing to teach you to think in an informed and rational manner you're easy prey for the 30sec sound bite.  You obviously have never learned what the Nazi's really did or that we didn't start the war with Japan by blockading them (which I'm sure that's what you learned from watching Pearl Harbor).  You have no concept of what Fascism is except for what you heard from the Dixie Chicks.  You were right at first when you spoke about "childish talk of rebellion."  It is childish.

Oh, another thing.  The people in our military are not "boys" and "girls" bud, they're adult men and women who chose the miltary as a profession and really don't appreciate your condescension.

I'll apologize for my generation's abysmal failure in your education.  Instead of worrying about your self esteem and political correctness we should have taught you something useful such as history.  Civics would have taught you about how our political system works so you could understand the difference between facts and spin, it would also give you an understanding for why politicians have agendas.  Spelling wouldn't have been a bad idea either.

I really think there should be mandatory classes on marketing in Middle School. Marketing is really at the core of individual munipulation, whether it involves politicians and policy or selling consumer products.

It is a very effective social/business science, based on intense research and a well established knowledge of human behavior. It really does work, and starts with Maslow's hierarchy of needs ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs). It works less if you know how the sausage is made, but you still have to dig pretty hard to find the half hidden truths.

In a perfect world the media would filter the spin, but it tends to be overworked, lazy and careerist. While there can be some bias at the core, the real failure is laziness, too much to cover with too little expert staff, and careerism and news celebrity where it's easier and safer to just cover two versions of public spin -- pro and con -- while ignoring the real motivations that neither side wants out in the public.

Wile I think most Americans understand this at some level, I think most feel they are somehow immune from it's effects or that "their" side doesn't practice it. The reality is that both sides work to play the masses for their own ends, which may or may not be exactly what their supporters think they are supporting.

Mace,

It isn't the fault of the education system that kids aren't educated. You can provide the finest education in the world and it will still fail as long as the student has no interest of learning. Like the old saw, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

As long as kids are only concerned with immediate satisfaction of whims and wants that are met by parents and a school that rewards unwillingness to learn by passing the "student" it's not going to change.

I agree with the rest of your post.

Few understand one of the best quotes from history (in spite of the person that uttered it). "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country." It's a concept that has gone out of vogue for many that live here by accident of birth.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Amen Brother.

I owe you one. You saved me a lot of typing.

And here is a little lesson for dryroasted.

Most of the rich mindless drones got that way by working really hard and not expecting someone else to give them stuff.

Its almost impossible in the US to work REALLY hard and not be at least upper middle class.

Of course, the definition of hard work differs.

Ask an immigrant construction worker what hard work is if you want the real definition.

I don't believe online news or news on the TV.  Only what's posted on the bbs:aok   PLUS it gives you commentary on the stories!
