p38 training plz?

I've just started playing AH and would like some help. I love the p38 and would like to learn how to dogfight with it better, I know its a good plane and I have the basics down just need help with what kind of fighting I should be doing with it (ie. turning fight, diving fight) and how to execute thoughs manuvers (ie. speeds for turns, flaps, etc). Any help would be greatly appreciated thx.

click on the 'request training' and see if murdr or widewing can get you in.  Those guys are awsome in the 38.  My SQD commander Daddog doesn't vacum in it either.

Got to be honest it's a beast to fly but once you get all the pilot thing down with the switches and buttons it's a worthy adversary.

So many of our veteran pilots and training corps are very skilled in the 38. You picked a good plane to try to get specific help with, because you will be getting a lot of good info.

I've only been playing the game for since late November, so what I have to say might not carry much weight...

The way I view the P38 isn't as a plane that is great at anything. It is good at everything, however, and is able to exploit any weakness that other planes may have. You also usually have a lot of options on how to fight other planes, because it does so many things so well.

The only serious negative attribute the P38 has, in my opinion, is that pilot wounds seem to happen a lot more while in a P38 compared to other planes.

I'm not a good p38 stick, but I would consider its ability to maintain a positive climb rate at extremely low speeds a great attribute.

You might want to try posting this in the aircraft forum.  I think you'll get a quicker and more detailed reponse from some of the best (and not so best) 38 sticks in the game.

I started this game not long ago and I'm getting better in the 38 but still not up for a challenge aginst good sticks in other planes.

I tried to stick with the 38 when I first started and was getting discuraged by getting killed so much. As a fairly new player I'd personally suggest flying something easy at first like a spit.

I moved away from the 38 and started flying the spit16 then moved into the spit9 and flew it this last month. This last week I started flying the 38 again and I'm doing much better in it.

I think it comes down to the fact that you don't learn much by dieing a lot, so it's better IMO to use something easier to fly as your training wheels then move back to something that's harder to fly like the 38.

I will say this about the 38, it turns like a indy car on the ground. I don't think there is another plane that can out turn it on the landing strip.

I agree with this.  In fact I suggest it to new players.  The P-38 is less forgiving of pilot (judgment) error than the more nimble fighters.  Basicly if one makes a lot of ACM mistakes in a P-38, they wont last long.

I recommend a "medium" ride rather than a Spitfire.  Best training airplane in the game is the F6F.

In AH, as it has been with the other MMO flight sims, the best training plane has been the Spitfire Mk IX.  It is a forgiving plane to fly, responsive to the controls and easy to fly.  It is also good because it gives the new pilot a plane that he can either practice Angles and Energy fighting in it without being overwhelmed at the controls.

Another good training plane is the N1K2 but I recommend that plane for the new pilot that pretty much wants to concentrate on Angles fighting.

There's also the La7 but without a trainer's guidance, the La7 can cause the new pilot to learn bad habits that are hard to shake later on.

Those are the three planes I would recommend a new player fly until they get used to the flight model and fighting in AH.  If they choose to move on to a "medium skill level plane" then I would recommend the Hellcat but only after they've cut their teeth on one of the easier training planes.  

One of the added benefits is that the new player will more likely stick around.

I learned on the P-40 Warhawk.  I maintain that an easy ride makes you a worse pilot; jumping into a medium ride makes you work harder.
