Question on wireless notebook
« on: February 19, 2007, 09:44:08 PM »
My wife just ordered a wireless notebook, and we are hooked into a belkin wireless router. The notebook is wireless ready..

What I am wondering is,do I need to buy anything to allow this notebook to work with the belkin router? or will it find it on its own..I am not sure what it means when it says it is wireless ready and all built in.

                            Thanks,
                                 Kevin

the note book when you turn on the wirless connect should scan the area and find any wireless signals ,this should then show up as a list.
All you really need to know is which one is yours.

now your wireless signal should be secure  so you will have to put the code or what ever you have for your wireless router in ti so it can connect to your router and the wireles system.

if you dont have your wreless connecton sucure any other bugger can use it too.

You may need to connect to the router wired, to log on to it and set up your wireless settings.  You'll set up a wireless network name, enable DHCP, and select your internet connection types, setup your WEP (Encryption) so no one else can "tap" into your network, etc.. etc..

Then unhook the wire and configure your laptop to the same network name, enable DHCP, and put in your WEP password.  THEN hopefully it'll find the router.. good luck!

Securing the network pays off always. If anything it gives you peace of mind for doing it. If you live in a remote area with no neighbours it might be for nothing basically - but you never know.
