If you've been in the military, it's even worse. 75% of the stories you hear in the military are BS, but fun to listen to and you don't care. Once you get out and people are trying the same BS to woo people into sympathy it's downright pathetic.

It's gotten to the point that you know someone is lieing about their military service if they're telling you anything about it. Most people that have been in it, don't talk about it. Most people that do talk about it in this kind of public forum haven't.

Yes... I'm speaking to those that in their first post in the AH O'Club have mentioned their combat injury... Hell... in their first 3 posts in the AH O'Club. It's disgusting.

So let me get this straight.  75% of People who have been in the military are pathological liars about their military service?   Where is your 'proof' of that.

As a 21 year Army Veteran I find that more than just a little insulting.  Maybe you are considering me one of the 25% but that means you are calling three out of four of my best friends liars.

So I guess 75% of Pearl Harbor survivors are pathological liars.  I suppose that using your assessement that either my Grandfather (served aboard the USS Lexington) or my wife's Grandfatehr (served aboard the California) were probably liars about their military service.  Maybe it was my father, or three uncles who served in Vietnam.  Maybe my great uncle, who died in 1944 when his P-51 disappeared somewhere over France.  Maybe a good friend of mine who lost his leg over Regensberg.  Or maybe several good friends of mine who are still rehabbing from the injuries they sustained from roadside bombs and ambushes in Iraq two years ago.  I guess my best friend here, a former MI NCO who spent two years in Iraq and Afghanistan is a pathological liar.

My service record is benign IMHO.  I wasn't some outstanding hero although I suppose I have some interesting stories.  Yeah, I have been in combat zones, yes I have been shot at.  Nothing bad happened to me and to be honest, I don't have any real gruesome stories.  Well, nothing that I think anyone here really needs to hear about.

Yes, there are posers out there.  There are guys that spent 2 years as a cook in the Army only to go hog wild at the PX on their way home to make themselves out to be some big hero.

However you make a statement saying 75% of the people who have been in the military make stuff up.  YOu are calling 75% of military vets liars about their military service.  To be honest, you think that 75% lie about their record.  You have no proof.

And I don't really care what you think....

I don't think that's what he meant.  I believe his point was that many times people who carry on about what they did in the service (not telling their story, but polishing thier own ego) they are lying.  Or greatly exagerating.

That's a strange dichotomy.

The part where you get upset and then say that you don't care.  Yeah, that part right there.

It turned out that the guy didn't even make it through basic. He was discharged for medical reasons and never served a day.

One day while on a traffic stop a car stops behind us, a dude gets out and IDs himself as an "off duty deputy sheriff" asking us if we needed help... which is kinda cheesy thing to do, but we chat with the guy anyway and hes got the cop lingo down. He did show us his badge and ID, briefly.

A day later he shows up at our lobby asking if he can go on a ride along, he tells out Sgt hes a deputy who knows us and wants to apply, Sgt schedules him for the next day... which luckily was my day off.

Next day he shows to ride along wearing a Sheriffs raid jacket, Sam Browne.. all the usual gear except he was carrying his "Dept issued" S&W .9mm, LASD issues Beretta's.. but still no big deal. He happened to be riding with a partner of mine who also went to the LASD academy.

About 5 hours into the shift my partner is starting to wonder about the guy, his description of the Sheriffs academy was way off, and he couldn't name his "ram-rod" (AKA Senior DI) or any of his class mates...  checking his drivers license number it wasn't registered "confidential", as 99% of cops have.

So the guys at my dept, embarrassed as hell, end up taking this guy down and arresting him after hed been patrolling, armed, in a police uniform with 1 of our officers for 6 hours.

His entire family floods our lobby demanding to know why we arrested their Deputy Sheriff son / fiancee / brother, an LASD Lt shows up too wondering if we have one of his... nope, just an extreme wanna-be. When the LASD Lt told them without a doubt hes not a Deputy, "its a mistake", "he works Carson homicide!!" they insisted. "Uh, Carson station doesn't have Homicide" said the Lt.

Dude had his entire family and all his friends convinced he was a Sheriffs deputy, he pretended to go to work every day claiming he was investigating murders, getting in shootings, car chases.. when in reality he was a dopey security guard for some yahoo company, he had applied to 10 different depts and failed every psych test.

Edit:
After papering his house we found Deputy uniforms, police gear of all kinds, a stolen LAPD rover.. it also turns out one of his hobbies was to drive his wanna-be crown Vic around pulling people over.

I've gotten pretty fedup with this speculation as to who was or wasn't  there or served or whatever. So ok..let's compare notes shall we?

1. What is the purpose of a butterfly knot when constructing a one-rope bridge?

2. What is the difference between a PRC-77 and a PRR-9?

3. What is a KY-38? Why does it have a "gun"?

4. When does an NCO have command authority over an Officer?

5. Anyone that was ever in-country remembers "The Dap". What is it?

6. What is a STABO rig? Where is is used?

7. What is a Fulton Recovery System?

8. A Special Forces team has a specific MOS of O5B2S. What is his expertise?

I have the answers if anyone wishes to ask.
Now you can fame me IF you think I not on the level!

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water MiniD.

Having said that I have no doubt some wannabees toss out a smoke screen and puff out their chests.

We have many vets in the Mongrels and not just a couple combat vets. Their time served and injuries are quite real. Off the top of my head, TeeeRex, Vaderr, TCE2506, Maddog, Hawco, Wklink, Docdog, Sarge, Argyle, Harppa, HeavyH, Rowdy1, TANK, ASAdog, and others I may have missed have all served. LOL I would have to look at our roster, but I can't help but wonder if we have more vets than not.  Never occurred to me before.  Anyway...

Don't let a few imposter's whose complete lack of character cloud your view of the real thing.

And a guy that made his own game back in the '90s, a guy who's dad owned and flew a B-17 and we can't forget our most recent guest, the guy that was shot 5 times and returned fire while grievously wounded, killing two of the bad guys.

Yes, only on the Intardnet can you meet such fascinating retards.
