The IRA had much better uniforms, including ski masks to keep out the cold Irish winds, (I assume).

Plus they had AR-15's and AK-47's. All we had were .303 Lee Enfiields.

I think their socks were green, white and orange.

They also had nice little black cabs that liked to drive round the Ardoyne keeping them alll cosy, milkvans to and cutout vans, the cut out vans where the good ones, you knew one was in the area, esspceially around crossmaglen, some of the road signs there were clearly makred with nice big round holes to let you know thaty had nice new shiny American made Barrets to use.
that's why we always walked about 15 meters behind the nice RUC guy.....
go for a wander around the divis flats sometimes, they don't need to wear ski masks now, they're all legit politicians now you know...

Well I was issued OD green wool socks from the Army and black wool socks from the Coast Guard but never wore them. I had my personal stash of Fruit of the Loom white cotton tube socks. Only kind of socks I'll wear unless I have to dress up for something.

man, been a while, but IIRC we just had thin blue(black?) socks issued. (Navy) wore 'em with boondockers, low quarters and sneakers, one size fits all...
