interesting "glitch" installing XP......
« on: February 21, 2007, 09:03:40 PM »
or trying to. All my XP media is either original or service pack1....My little ECS/E6600 project blue screens right at the end of the XP load sequence. I trundled it back to fry's and it fires right up...it also will run 98,2000 or XP off an existing build. But it wont load....the techie at fry's and I figure its simply that the  drivers I need for the PCI express VC are in the service pack 2. The PS and VC seem to work fine in other systems....

Trying to avoid chasing down non issues. Hope to have a XP media edition tomorrow....can you load XP (original build) on a pci-e/775 system??? If so then I have either a PS or VC issue to resolve....

Hrm... well the Socket775 won't be any problem in general. I have a 775 with a PCIe card and did a fresh install when I upgraded to this. However my mobo came with a CD-ROM with drivers, and during the installation (I can't recall where/when) I was able to put this in and it installed any other stuff it needed.

If you're blue-screening off the bat, I might think something's wrong with the copy you have. I've heard some folks say that can happen (bad CD, just get another and it works, for example).

I don't have that much experience in the BSD area, so I'm afraid I'm of no help here.

which service pack do you have.....

CD does have drivers etc....I'm not aware that you can install them during the initial sequence...unless its during the F6 sequence for raid etc??? Do you remember what you did...certainly worth exploring

with SP 2, everything loaded fine.....so you need a sp2 media disk or you need to create one via autostream

My understanding is that Bill will send you one for free as well....
