I read somewhere about German planes having offset guns, as opposed to shooting straight in front, they would fire upwards and forward.

The fighter interceptors would fly under the lancs lets say, then fire their guns.

Not sure if this has been discussed or not? Might be cool, I guess until you needed the forward firing, then u'd be sol.

That's the Schraege Musik installation wich was used in a number of nightfighters.

That guns did not replace any forward firing guns.

Yep, Schräge Musik has been applied on many different planes

Also it has been discussed alot, but I doubt we'll see it any time soon

Not sure if these were the same guns or a variation but they were installed in the ME163 wing-roots pointing up and were triggered by the shadow of a bomber passing over the 163. Was just reading about that last week.

The system you are referring to was called "schräge Musik" (German) or "oblique music" (approx. translation)

Similar was done to some Japanese fighters to try and counter Allied bombers, but they were not too effective.

I reckon the Schräge Musik would be VERY effective against British bombers, having nothing to shoot downwards with (The 110 could just hang below it)

The problem is finding the bombers in the night first

Perhaps radar is the next thing on our list

It's modelled in the mediocre IL-2 series. It's very difficult to do, as the aircraft is flying perpendicular to the gunsight. It's very much like being a waist gunner.
