Blurry Trees
« on: February 22, 2007, 03:22:41 PM »
I've been dealing with this problem for the last two versions.  When I am in a tank...and bring up the gunsight.  Trees beyond 1.4K become indistinguishable blurs.  Funny thing is that the bushes inide of them do not blur.   (See image below).  Note: I am not panning when the trees are blurry, this is a stable view.   The biggest problem this causes is that I cannot see GV's in the trees at all.  I just see the rounds shoot out of the trees.

I have re-installed AH completely.  Still have the problem.

I have all my object and ground detail sliders set to full.  Still burry at all vis ranges,  ground , medium and full .

I have tried turning terrain optimizing on and off, no difference.

I am running a  1680x1050 resolution and max texture size of 1024.  On a SyncMaster 205BW Wide screen LCD by Samsung.    I have tried a tex size of 512 and a 1280x1024 resolution.  No difference.

I am running the 9.0c version of DirectX.

I have loaded the Hi-Res Terrain pack.  No difference.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT card and am using the 84.66 drivers. (since previous posts have said stay clear of the 9X.xx versions).

As I mentioned, everything was fine until a couple of versions ago, then poof...this happened.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

You need to check the Knueter valve on the heat sink with your video card. If it is set to short range view quality you need to reset the dip switches to the following:

The two on the right side need to be up and the three on the left side need to be up, down, up in that sequence.

Hope that helps.

:D :aok :O

Sorry buddy I couldn't help it. I have not see that problem pop up in any of the H2H games or even when I have been online.

That looks normal to me (i.e. AH looks like that on my machine when zoomed in using the tank sight).  This started happening after a 2.08 patch.  Before 2.08 this would only happen at low detail settings.  At 2.08, the performance (fps) dropped at equivalent detail settings, for zoomed in forests.  Then the next patch to 2.08 regained performance by significantly reducing the detail at the max level on the slider, making the fps higher but the trees blurry.  That's the experience on my machine at least (2.8GHz Northwood w Radeon 9600XT).  I'm sure everyone elses mileage varies (except Softail it would appear).  I never attempted to "fix" it because there's nothing "wrong": that's just the way AH appears on my machine.

Make sure you have "ground vis range" selected.  It's like ctrl or alt and a number key from 1 to 4, or something like that.

Its like that in All modes.  Like I said earlier....this started happening about 2 versions ago.... so I may just have to live with it.

Have you gone into the nvidia drivers and forced it to high quality mode?  Certain driver optimizations could be doing that sort of thing.

Yes....I bumped up the quality mode.... between performance, quality and high quality.  No effect.

I assume this is not what "Everyone" sees?
