I think the biggest harm we have done to ourselves has been the systematic emasculation of little boys beginning in grade school.  long gone are the days when by the third grade it was known amongst the male population who the top dogs were because it was settled in the playground.  learning to take a punch in the face and to eat dirt goes a long way towards creating the kind of people that the gentleman in question is.  if you don't know your limitations you also don't know your capabilities.  I wonder if the old guy guy didn't just size up the bandit and think I can take this punk and did so.  in any event an impressive story but one that was common years ago.

The story said the guy in his 70s was a retired serviceman.  To paraphrase Mac the Arthur, Old soldiers never die, they just break away.

not the salt and the pepper but the shakers, only a frenchman would think condiments could be used as weapons.  :D

I've seen many American seniors on bus trips here. I for one wouldn't mess with them. They are not shy and retiring types.

My dad is 78 and I don't think many of us could work a whole day alongside him plastering a house.  He is in very good shape for any age.  He has been to the doctor maybe 5 times in his life.

My Uncle and his wife travel abroad quite a bit.I believe he was 62 when they were visiting Italy.Three men attempted to steal my Aunt Pat's purse. One grabbed it,the other two grabbed him.

He kneed one guy,and punched the other one in the head several times.

The three men fled, and my Aunt still had her purse.

Besides being a pretty big guy,my Uncle also served in the Marines.
