Ground Attack
« on: February 22, 2007, 08:19:25 PM »
Why is it nobody thinks that ground attack bombing is very effective? a well flown p47 with 10 rockets can pretty much diable any field in the game.
i can drop 500 pounders out of my a20 onto a ammobunker, a AA gun, and ive even hit a convoy of trucks with ONE BOMB, but a wing of B17s cant hit hardly any thing even down low
at 5000 feet!

ive posted joint p47 and a20 missions and they have been left un-joined and sneered ineffective

i dont get why ground attack is seen this way, any body wanna explain?

To take last first.

Missions tend to be joined only if the people joining know & trust the guy makeing the mission. In other words, reputation makes a HUGE difference when it comes to filling missions. Spend a month watching successful missions.

How do they choose their target, what planes do they choose, how do they promote it?

Then slowly start trying to accomplish the same thing.

As for ground attack, personally at times I enjoy it. Nothing I love better than a good bunch of F6f's and F4u's surprising an enemy base from the carrier. Knock down the defenses and the city and slip the troops in. But, bombing of any kind is really not being rewarded in AH. Fur ballers complain every time you get near their fur ball with a bomb. That leaves strat objects and for those level bombers are best.

Also there's a big variety in taste for ground attack.
Post a jug mission and I'll never join. Post a F6f Carrier op mission and your chances go way up. Thats just my preference. But when your planning a mission for others, you need to think about their preferences before your own.

I doubt you can take down even a small airfield in this plane with 10 rockets.

I fly ground attack against vehicle bases a fair amount (used to do it a lot more and also used to do it against airfields until they put the star-wars ack on them).

In an F6F-5 with 2 1000 pound bombs and full rocket rails I can take out 3 VH's, 2 auto ack, manned ack and possibly the barracks but thats using everything including the .50 cals and is dependent on how many .50's it takes to finish off the 3rd hanger.

At an airfield you'd have a much more difficult time as there are not 2 hangers sitting together anywhere like there are at a VB.  That set-up at the VB's allows you to take two hangers for almost the price of one (in ordinance) due to proximity blast damage.  In fact, while I've managed to take 2 hangers at an airfield (again expending my .50's to get the second one), one is the norm.

Plenty of people fly ground attack missions.  Organizing one is difficult as eveyone has their favorite planes to use in this role.  Mine is the F6F-5 and I've never seen an organized F6F-5 mission posted.

In my experience the best way to "organize" these "missions" is on the fly, simply working with other like-minded players who are hitting the same target field unless of course you're in a squad.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I've hit single targets ie Vh's,Radar and barracks in a BG24 from 30,000 with one drop on salvo 1. Btw I was using 500lb bombs  :D

Because these people are... brace yourself... stupid. Come find me in-game some time. Ill show you some real bombing. Ive de-acked a feild from 18,000 feet with a B-17G, ive disabled a small airfield with a Ju-88. Ive bombed moving jeeps from a Hurricane IIC, and ive shot down 3 fighters wth a set of Ju-88s. And you know why ive done it and none of these kids have? Because to do things like that in bombers takes serious work. I needed my squad CO to teach me precision bombing before I could de-ack, I needed LOTS of practice in Ju-88s to dogfight and flaten a field, and the Hurricane bombing just takes experience. If there is one thing that takes patience in this game, its high altitude bombing. And if there is one thing kids dont have any more, its patience.

Keep telling yourself you buff, because you have the patience to do it.

the real norton bombsight would never have hit a single building or gun in combat, though they did hit a twelve foot target in testing, but then again, they knew all the wind speeds and barometic stuff, ect

just thinking out loud

Turn on manual speed calibration and most bomber pilots wouldn't hit anything.
HTC simplified the calibration so bomber will be made easy and people start bombing from 10,000 instead of 10 feet.
Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.

And your point?  Alot of us can do that... I can up an A20 and get 8 kills from dropping on gv's...moving, and maybe do a little air-to-air and maybe land a nice 10 kills... trust me bro, alot of us do ground attacks.  ALot of us can hit a field gun with a rocket.  And you think a flight of B17's can't hit anything at 5k, watch 999000 do his thing at 30k and flatten an entire base and still gun you down with his lasers!  You got a lot to learn about this game....  :cry
