Major problems no solution
« on: October 13, 2001, 04:50:00 PM »
Here is my system
Win 2k sp2
direct x 8 latest verison
Athlon 600
256 PC 133 ram
64 Meg Radeon SDr card (brand new)
MX-400 sound card (brand new)
US robotics 56k modem (new)
Quantum fireball 20 gig HD (POS IMO)
Microsft Precision Pro 2 JS or a Saitek X-36 which doesnt run very good with win 2k

When I get into the game it locks up between 10 and 30 seconds.  I tried redownloading the 1.08 update, and reinstaling but to no avail.  OS runs fine but in every game it looks like crap.  I am notcing a lot of what looks like drawing s of lines in the game or bad video.  But the thign is I have 2 cards/2 motherboards to test it on and it and with the same results.  Does anyone have any suggesions?

Check your drivers/cards against compatibility lists on manufacturer websites first.

Check for updated Radeon drivers.  ATI's Win2k drivers for the Radeon line has been... erm... problematic.  However, I think some of the more recent ones are quite usable.  I know there are a few folks playing AH on Radeons.

So Sachs, are you saying that you have tried the Radeon on other motherboards and the video problems move to the new motherboard???  If so, then it's obviously a bad video card.

Have you tested your current computer setup with another video card to see if the problem goes away??  If not, then that should be your next step.  If video is good with that card then your Radeon is suspect.  If you have the same problems, then you have to look elsewhere for the culprit.  BTW, have you checking the 'Troubleshooting' section at ATi to see if others have had the same problems???

Also heat could be at work here too.  Is your CPU and/or CPU fan properly seated???  I assume from your system list above that you are not overclocking the Athlon, but if you are then that could be an issue too.  Cooling is everything with Athlons.

Not sure this helps, but you asked for input and you got mine anyway!!  hehe

Good luck

I have Windows 2000 also and a SB live
Athlon 1 ghz running at 1Ghz
and a TNT2 Ultra
and a Quantum 40 gb HD
I am not running MS office so fastfind isnt the problem.

I have a similar problem.

When I first engage a target I get a 2-3 second stutter in video then its ok.  Anyone else having similar problem

control panel
multimedia
audio tab
advanced properties
performance
move slider left 1 notch, test
repeat as neccessary

Last I heard Radeon lasted drivers are beta drivers. If they are beta I would try back loading older full release drivers. Also, check your direct x configurations.
