Convergence question for Jug pilot's
« on: February 26, 2007, 10:13:27 AM »
I would like to get a genral idea of how you set your guns. different ranges, all at one point and about how far out you recomend?

Also any other advise you might have with this plane. Just started using it more this last month and starting to like it. Thanks.

We each set up our Jugs a little different and each model has differences.

mine are set evenly .. either at 300 or at 500 . it depends on what
i'm most likely doing the longer converge for attacking buffs and straffing .the shorter  for dogfighting.

Fuel management  very important .. the less fuel in the plane the better it performs . use a dt climb out on wep then lower the rpms and cruise for a while . get your fighting done then get out and RTB on cruise settings.

throttle , 2-3 notches of flaps and good rudder management are a must .

I fly the jug allot....usually going with 8 guns.

i don't know if anyone else sets their convergence like me...i set the innermost mg's the longest(550) and the outermost mgs the shortest(475) with the other 4 guns 525 & 500(middle-inner &middle outer guns)

Sort of a reverse convergence and it works for me...Anyone else try this?

I use 400 for every gun on every plane. I rarely take a shot that's longer than 400. I've been playing for 3 years and my hit percentage has always been 15%+ That's what works for me, try it out if you'd like ;)

Thanks guys, a few squad mates of mine were told to put their guns at 300 and  has been great for them. So i tried it and my kills and hit% fell through basement. I played with the convergance for a few hr's late last night and i think 400 is where i'll move it up to next.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions guys.

I had a problem with Hit% a few months ago ... and I noticed that I had an abrupt flight path and alot of over correction (Bounce) in my Films ....

Well after a long chat with Silat ,,, we figured out it was in my stick scaling and I raised my sliders up til I got the (bounce) out of my flight  .... My Hit % went thru the Roof its at 27.0+ % now in a fighter .  ive used fighter mode sorties the last few tours just to check this .

I've never had luck with the "Split conv " settings as for I use my primary guns for the inital Hit /line up ,or scare tactics and only fire my secondary (cannons) when im shure im getting the "Kill shot"  , But this comes from flying Spit 5's and Yaks (low cannon amount)

Just another idea that may help .

P47s are convergence nightmare - especially the N. The guns are so wide apart in the N that if your prop is chewing the tail of an La7 you will hit both his wingtips.

You have to consider several factors in determining what is best for you. Do you like to spray from long distance or do you like to get close enough to stick the right guns up his 4$$ and the left to his cockpit. Find your ideal shooting range and then add a little. It is better to shoot under convergence than longer.

Also remember that the jug is a slow plane, which means you'll see a lot of planes back sides as they pull away from you. Some ability to damage them at a distance is welcomed, as well as better strafing ability and bomber busting.

I consider the jug as two pairs of 4 guns - right and left. Meaning, no point in staggering the convergence because the you scatter the fours. Count on hitting with one set (equal to P51B at its convergece), where you have double the chance to-hit out of convergence. Hitting with all 8 at the same spot is going to be rare.

Mine are set to 300-350, all 8 to the same point. I usually shoot at 300 and shorter.

Some will swear by a zone convergence (staggered) and others don't. I use a concentrated convergence at 350 yards because even if the target is outside the convergence point, four 50 caliber rounds are hitting the target at the same point. That doesn't happen with a zone convergence. You're less likely to get a kill shot with zone convergence than with a concentrated convergence of 50 cals. The faster you can kill the opponent, the faster you can get the Jug's nose skyward again to put more energy into the bank and not be lingering around trying to finish him off.

Another thing to consider is how the distance icon works. At the moment an icon drops from 600 to 400 yards, the target is just under 600 yards away, not 400 yards away.

I fly the D40 once in a while.  Like (almost) all the planes I fly I set anything .50 cal and over to D650 and anything less (like .303's) to a pattern from approximately D400 to D350, 25 yards apart with the inners set furthest out and the outers closest in, etc.  I'm one of the few who like these long convergences but I'm just used to them so they work for me.

The D40 dives like a rock and will usually climb back to it's starting alt pretty easily if you don't burn off E at the bottom so I like to use it in a high speed slashing role.

Slashing through a furball at speed with 8 .50's is great fun and it's got enough manouverability to line up the shots.

On the other hand if you've got a squad mate or two along then turn fighting isn't out of the question at all but I'm not sure I'd want to attempt it alone against a better turn or E fighter.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

i couldnt agree more on both these facts.

i would add that in a 20mm loaded plane, the tendancy for me is to hold my fire and keep my gun solution clean untill the last possible second and closest possible range.

In 50cal loaded planes this will get you nothing but assists unless you are the best gunner/pilot in the game. With 50cals, opening fire at anything from 600yrds or below is very worthwhile. tap out a few rounds at 600 indicated on the icon, this will confirm if your lead estimation is correct. Half a second later you will be at 400 yrds and now you must plough into the enemy with all your power, open fire and dont stop shooting till they fall apart.

20mm or 30mm cannon - get in close, conserve your ammo.

50cal machine guns - Dont hold back, shoot alot and dont hold fire till they die or have evaded your solution.
400 yrds on my tail, right where i want you... [/size]

Roscoroo, would you mind making a screeny of your settings and mention  what type of stick you use as well? I think the  scaling I am using are murdr settings, which may be the same silat uses. ?????

Ty very much.  Clutz

here's mine ... But I'm probely the only One in this game using a Mad Catz panther Stick and I know im the only one with "Roopeds"

Clic me ^

But as you see my scaling sliders start at 1/2 way up and go up from there ... Silat , and I think Murdr are on a CH setup  and most of those guys have the sliders starting further towards the top , or all the way on the top ..
my peds are set even closer to the top and have a arch to the scaling  and alot more deadband to slow up any tendency to over correct at times .

The over correction was part of my problem and a tendency to bounce when lining up the shot ... I was loosing E over it too . i went from a 4%and lower hit percentage straight to a 18% then up from there .so it defentally worked .

The microsoft sticks seam to be set starting out more toward the bottom (I may be wrong but that what ive noticed more )
the saitecs go either way ..

Hope this helps .
