1950TX or PRO ?
« on: February 28, 2007, 09:08:06 AM »
I'm looking at the 2 256mb cards and the 90$ price difference.
Would there be an actual substantial difference in AH between the 2?

With
E6600
P5W DH deluxe
2 gigs of DDR2

...I'm not sure if it's wise to save 90$ unless in this game there isn't that much diff.

I swear I'll buy my stuff this week and shut up :)

Personally, i wouldn't go XT.  The 1950Pro is a fine card, and very cheap.  The XT is faster, but not enough to justify the extra $$, espeically with the recent 1950Pro price cuts.

149.99 after rebate  For a x1950Pro is a great deal.

Also the nVidia 7900gs is priced similarly.  Both perform very close, so it's a choice of preference between the two.

Generally hardware is priced along a curve that gets very steep after you pass a certain point.  While the XT is faster, you'll have to decide if it's 'enough faster'.  Personally if I were prepared to spend the money for an XT, I'd wait until I could get a next generation card like the 8800 or the R600.

This  is a very handy guide to help you compare your options.

Nvidia released a 340MB version of the 8800, an 8800GTS , at a 299 dollar price point . With the cpu you have i would say go with the 8800 , you already have a great cpu , might as well finish off the system in a way that will best utilize your existing hardware .    38

Good points.
It's 100$ more in juice that I will very likely not use. Once Skuzzy replied to me saying he still needs to see any1 use more than 256mb in this game.  Until my PC crashed I was plying AH with 64mb :)
I guess, though, the 8800GTS would be a better choice if I decide to spend $90 more for the 1950XT instead of going for the 1950pro.

So my main focus is to experience AH at the best without spending unneeded $$ that I could use toward a new kiteboard ;)

Thanks!

If AH is your only game, the X1950 Pro is the card for you.  Really it's overkill but, it'll handle AH easily in high resolution with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering.  If you've never played AH with anti-aliasing enabled...your in for a real treat.  :)

Not to mention that when the 10.x come out I won't have spent too much on this one and can get a new one.
