Here it is, the only known (to me) film of the collision detection system not working. Taken on the evening of Jan 9, 2007.

http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/1014_1172707950_ram_0130.ahf

CAUTION: This brief film contains coarse language, hordes, dweebs, HOtards, TTards, and drunks (well, one anyway). Best viewed with the sound down, unless you're not offended by me saying "bull****".

Here's the Spit ramming the La ... I don't get it - what's not working?

Like the way you looked away before the hit ... hehe maybe thinking if I don't see it, it won't happen .... it's not that kind of "see".

think he means the text...ie collision message, you know  "furboll has collided with so and so" or "so and so collided with furboll".

Didnt see either of those in the text in clip.

:huh

The only possible explanation, (other than a glitch, and I admit, this may be a stretch), is that Medic477 had a guns solution on you and shot off your wing before the apparent collision.  Thus, although the film seems to show a collision, to your PC your wing was already damaged/gone before the LA went through it.  A momentary lag between CPU deciding this and graphics displaying it, just happening to coincide with the visual of the LA hitting the wing.

Working for this theory is that AFAIK you do not see hit sprites on your own plane from outside sources, thus the possibility that your wing came off due to weapons and not the apparent collision.  Also working for is his positioning in relation to your aircraft -- he is close and appears to be trying to follow your flight path, indicating the possibility he was in reality on target.

Neutral to the theory is Medic477s position at the moment of the kill.  He ended up the closest to you as far as I can tell.  So, his kill could be a proxy for being closest to your collision-downed plane, or could be because of landed weapons fire.  Offers no evidence either way.

Working against this theory is that the film does not capture him firing -- I am not sure if the film is 100% accurate and capable of picking up every con in the area that is firing (a few seconds of film earlier may show whether he was firing just before and not captured in your clip due to lag).  Also against IMO is that Medic477 is in a Hurri I.  Although I am sure it is possible to get a clean insta-wing-shear from his range, it is less likely than if he was in a IIC or some other cannon armed plane.

Please send the film to HTC.  It would be very interesting to find out what we are seeing here.

Accidentally edit out part text instead of voice?
Notice no 200, country, range, or squad until after crash. That is unusual.

The film, aside from the first few minutes being clipped out, is unedited. The text and vox have not been touched. If you play it at extreme slow speed, I collide with the La7 twice- taking his wing and tailplane through my left wing.

At first, I'd thought the La had taken my wing off in a shot, and that he was medic#s. However, he's actually a tailing hurri1. Also, if I'm not mistaken, there are no muzzle flashes or tracers from him in this part of the fight, which I think I saw in the earlier bit. Additionally, you'll notice that it doesn't say I've been shot down, but rather that I crashed, and medic receives the proxy. I have custom sounds for almost everything, one benefit being that I can usually tell if I'm being hit with light MGs, cannons, etc, and there is nothing but the little gray puff as the wings pass, and then my wing comes off. I think you can also see hit sprites on your plane as well as your enemies, but I am in no way certain of that. I'll look at some of my other films to see if this is actually the case.

There is no notification, no nothing. I'd tagged this film, and set it aside, and only today, as I was trying to get my viewer woes sorted out, that I actually watched it trying to sort out what happens.

Firing animations and sounds from the other planes, but nothing from the Hurri1. He enters the film relatively late, and I'd taken no hits, having just entered the fray a minute earlier. Also, if the positions for the enemy planes are correct, he's nowhere near pulling lead on me, but I don't know how accurate the film is with regard to everybody's orientation.

Lastly, notice there's a little puff of smoke as our wings pass, and then a fraction of a second later, in I go, confused, drunk, and helpless.

Hmm hub Then i'd say send it in and hope ht has  better answer.

Strange no collision message  because like you said "I collide with the La7 twice- taking his wing and tailplane through my left wing.".

This is defiantly an interesting one.
Hope you get an answer.

:lol  That would explain a few things.

We need a collision sound or some kind of cue. What a complete and total waste of about 5 minutes.
