New CH Fighterstick Problem
« on: March 01, 2007, 10:02:33 AM »
I have just purchased a CH Fightersick.  I'm having a problem however.  Half the time when I plug in the stick, Windows recognizes it as new hardware.  When this happen, I have to re-map and re-calibrate in AH.  This does not happen all the time.  Seems not to happen, or happen less frequently if I have the stick plugged in when I start up the computer.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the CH software.  Did not help.  I'm using CH Pedals also.  AH won't recognize them as one device as the CH software says it should.  The pedals never game me a problem with my old stick.

Kinda frustrating as it takes time to map all those buttons, recalibrate and the sensitivity seems to change when this happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the CHStart file in your Startup slot ?
Start/All Programs/Startup

If not drag it in there, go thru the CH Manager and hit download .  Then switch back to Mapped Mode after calibration and reboot.

Do you plug the gear into different ports ? It is best to plug the same things into the same ports. If you don't have many, try getting a powered USB Hub so that all your CH stuff goes into the new hubs ports and you only have to use one USB port on you PC preferably with them left connected.

Each time you boot up you have to download into your CH stick the map template you created (If you didn't and don't use the CM software, now is the time to rethink!). Better still, put a shortcut to your CHstart file in your computer startup folder. Do not move the file itself into the start folder. Enable the quickstart feature for your Aces High template and it will be downloaded automatically when you start up Aces High.

Does the CH CM Software recognise the pedals as a device ?

Because AH recognises each separate device there is no point in using the CH software to combine as a single device. That feature is really best for really old games that do not support mutiple devices. However I doubt that you have properly created a single device in the Control Manager software and have just created a mapped mode template with each device still separate. - I suggest you study the CM Help file to fully understand the very wide range of options available!

Do not map all the buttons etc in Aces High! - Map them into your CH CM template. It is easy and totally reliable from my experience.

Carwash,
bought a new CH fighterstick and Throttle a couple weeks ago. I didn't want to go through the learning curve associated with learning the CH mapping software, plugged the JS & Throttle into 2 separate USB ports, calibrated in windows, opened Aces high and Voila' - the game recognized both devices. I had to assign rudder to the mini-stick on the throttle (no pedals yet) and re-mapped some of the buttons to game functions. So far, I'm liking the setup (still grabbin' wrong buttons!) but haven't had any difficulty getting everything to work.

Eventually I'll get the pedals (another learning curve) and probably have a go at the CH mapping software. Most here seem to love it as it allows you to do more with the buttons/switches available. Currently, I'm having a hard time with the buttons I've programmed (can't remember what they do) and I haven't programmed them all yet!

Good luck,

Optiker

Optiker,

If you are only missing the pedals, use the CH CM software now! - You will never look back once you discover how easy it is. Yes you do have to learn to use the software but it is soooo easy once you have gone through that phase.

To be honest there is nothing you need to do in the CH CM when you have the pedals. It is just another 3 axis device and no buttons to map to!

I strongly recommend you just focus on the mapped mode. Do not create one "virtual" device as that is totally unnecessary for use in AH. Just add the Stick and throttle to you template and start mapping the command to the buttons. e.g press the trigger and CM  will show it straight away almost begging you to enter an f ! and so on!

Edit:
As a PS you can "save as" templates to tweak different variations until you find the one that suits you best without having to remember exactly how you mapped it! The test facility quickly shows what you have mapped to each button and as long as your knowledge of the AH keys is there it is very useful!

Thanks for the help.

I realized after reading more on the CH software that I needed to run CM on startup.  Think that has it.

Thanks again.

I finally gave up using CH's s/w and plug my above CH setup directly into the PC
Takes a good cpl of hours for the first setup but you should be good from there on

Someone already mentioned getting a powered Hub if you are short on USB ports. Thats what I did and it works great. Leave my stuff plugged into the PC all the time

another thing to add carwash.

With the CH sticks they have two rotary wheels for elevator/ailerons.

If the notch on these wheels gets moved from the centre it will start moving the alignment up and down.  Just make sure that you dont accidentally move these.

The centre point of your stick will be off and therefore in AH the stick wont be calibrating properly.
