Iraqi security forces kill 80 insurgents
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:34:55 PM »
Nice to see that at least some of the Iraqi security forces are strong enough to start conducting operations on their own with little or no direct support from US forces.

Iraqi security forces kill 80 insurgents, take over 50 captive

It also looks like the Sunni tribal leaders in the Anbar province are getting tired of the foreign Al-Queda in Iraq fighters and have assisted the Iraqi security forces in trying to drive the foreign insurgents out.

More than likely  someone couldn't raise the pay off cash in time, or screwed someone over they shouldn't have.

Let's hope it is accurate.  The report earlier this week about the 18 kids killed by a bomb while playing soccer turned out to be false.  While that is a good thing, it just shows how quickly the MSM picks up any story they can get their hands on and runs with it.

Hopefully the Iraqi military and police continue to step up to stop the violence in their own country so our troops can come home.

It wasn't false, there was a mix up though that lead to confusion by both sides.  The previous day to the controlled blast by coalition forces, a car bomb did go off near a soccer field where kids were playing that resulted in 18 being killed.  Apparently, the news wires confused this with the controlled blast because it took place near the same area as the car bomb the day before.

On Wednesday, though, the U.S. military said the report was false and suggested that someone had lied to stir up trouble in Ramadi, a center of Sunni Arab insurgent activity in the western province of Al Anbar. In reality, it said, a controlled detonation of a weapons cache by U.S. troops had gone awry, injuring 31 people, none seriously.

"There was no [bomb] blast and there were no 18 children killed," Navy Rear Adm. Mark I. Fox, a U.S. military spokesman, said at a news briefing.

Great, more dead Iraqis.  Body counts are as good a metric in this war as they were in 'Nam.

In high school, an older history teacher told the class I was in "Democracy isn't for everyone".

"What does he mean?" I thought.  "Everyone deserves to be free".

But now I see what he means.  Democracy only works if you have a non-violent, educated society.

Anyways, good for the Iraqi Army.  Hopefully they can kill all the insurgents.

I'm glad to see that the Iraqi Army is now taking on mass numbers of insurgents. Hopefully this will get some of the Iraqi Police, and Army moral up. I'm just woundering, how will do we train the Iraqi Army, and Police? How closely related is it to ours, and how different is their training from ours? Are they all getting the same training (Police and Army)? Sounds like this group that took on that many insurgents and was able to capture so many had a good commander, and will trained soldiers.
