When did normal war time tactics get to be viewed as low life antics in AH? As I have posted other places, the HO was used quite effectively, with superior cannon or machine gun equipped planes (also heavily armored US style planes) against lesser equipped enemy planes.
Also, the dreaded cherry pick! Read the bios of the great ones. They USUALLY attacked only when advantaged.
Believing every encounter should occur co-alt and co-E is just silly.
As Douglas Bader said, "It's not a bloody game of cricket".
ps, I won't even talk about what would have happened if the enemy kept upping planes at a capped field. Do you really think the figthers would have let them up? ROFL
TalonX, I respect your opinion and have over the years. I would like to set my view straight on this matter. This is not war, it is a game. A game where one can up planes 24/7 365 days a year for as long as HT and crew are in business. That being said, one might want to start setting some personal rules for oneself to give the game a certain sense of dignity. I try real hard not to HO anyone, but I will vulch if all the flying red guys are dead. I know people that refuse to ever, and I mean ever, vulch! I try to not attack a 2 plane fight unless asking the green fellow if it's OK if I help, but if I saw the green guy HOing during the fight, sometimes I just leave him to die! I try to never fly towards a fight that is multi-friendly vs 1 enemy, and many times I will try to let a fellow ditch if he has put up a good fight but wont make it back to base. I think that it is good for gameplay for people to be vocal about these and other issues, as it tends to set up several classes of players, none being any better as real life people than any others. Within the community these different players find where they choose to be and they can feel good about it. Now if a game has a safety mode, (staying 8 k above a furball and cherry picking) and several in the community always play in that mode, then the community loses a little bit of fight! If a fellow only goes to fields where a vulch is on, the community loses a little bit of fight. If a fellow will only attack if he has the speed to run all the way back to his base to not risk any harm to his plane, the community loses a little bit of fight. If a fellow only HO's on every merge, he deprives the other fellow of learning from a good fight, hence the community loses a little bit of fight. Since this is a game about war, then keeping the "fight" in the game is high on my list!
Understand that although myself and others can get vocal about these issues, many times they are issues that need to be discussed. A player has the right to play however he/she may want to, and the community has the right, to judge how the game is being played, if it is the interest of the concept of the game.
